Nice work with the round robins Tony - that takes a little planning. When are you going to play again?

Re: John Schleinich Memorial - Live Broadcast

I like the Kings Gambit so watched one of the games this afternoon. It goes back to the days of romantic chess. I've added some notes and this should copy and paste to a chess base program.

Not quite as big a fan of king's gambit as you Gary. there are just too many ways for black to have an easy game with the kings gambit such as e4 e5 f4 d5 exd5 exf4 line which is pretty much just equal. This and several other lines proves that king's gambit can't be a serious opening to pursue other than as a surprise weapon. Nevertheless, if black wants a complicated game, white will of course have great compensation, but why bother giving white anything like that when the black player should realize that psychologically speaking, white will be very upset with a simple position where black just gives back the pawn and the position just ends up equal.
            Shameless self-promotion on display here

Very true. A lot of gambits are like that. The opponent can kill the play and the position can become drawish. In the move order you give it can be transposed back to the King's Gambit but not one of the better variations for white. I always found playing the gambit openings was like fishing. Sometime the tactical positions would suddenly appear and sometimes it would be like you say.

In any case, I was simply notating what was played and trying to make it a bit interesting.
