Dear Geordie et al, sorry that the Ottawa Winter Open is on the same weekend (Friday evening to Sunday afternoon). When I went to book our heavily subsidized site at the RA Centre, through some fluke availability bottlenecks, that is the only weekend I could get between Christmas and March Break. It looks like you have a great event lined up, and we wish you all the best! We will also have chess fun here on the Eastern front! ;)

Signed, guy doing his scheduling best for Ottawa events, and sorry for any conflicts :(

Hi Aris, no need to apologize! You made the announcement long before we had fully decided to organize the reading week open again this year. Alas, we face a similar problem with booking space and couldn't avoid the conflict :(

Thanks for the well wishes, & good luck with the Ottawa Open!

              82 and counting!
Pretty good widespread range of players.

An awesome piece of good news:
We were able to switch the tournament room and we'll be playing in The Great Hall for all 3 days. Hurrah!

We look well on track to hover around the 110-120 mark, but perhaps not quite reach the 131 we had last time. Weather forecast looks beautiful for this weekend considering the time of the year, too!

See you all on Saturday morning,

              Alex Ferreira

PS. Note the deadline for early entry if by Thursday night. Website list will be split into sections Friday morning.

                      Will do :D

We have a 6 person organizing team for this event... we're all playing, but one of us is taking a bye each round so we'll have plenty of time to post updates.

Alex has separated the pre-reg list into sections now. Please double check that you are in your preferred section and we've noted your bye requests and discount correctly.

                      See you tomorrow!

Re: Toronto destroys Budapest,... at weekend chess

The Siralyi FIDE Open(<2200) 7-rounds G/90, just started with around 85 players so it's just a myth that Canada lags behind at least one East Europe country in chess. The modest EF of $18 was nice but prizes are small too.
