Ed Trice was (is?) the one involved in "Gothic Chess" (played on a 10 x 8 board) who (at one time) announced a multi-million dollar Gothic Chess Open. (I think Karpov was allegedly going to play)

A couple of years ago, I was browsing the Gothic Chess web page and found that there was a 400-player event held near Ottawa. I contacted him - inquiring about where/when it was held. He gave me some approximate dates, and said "it was held across the river from Ottawa". More searching showed no hotels or community centres hosting such an event in Gatineau/Hull, and obviously the "traditional" chess community would have had some knowledge about it. I had no further responses from him.
