Out of curiosity, who automatically qualified from last year (the Champion and the winner of last year's Reserve section - I presume). Have they already registered/confirmed?

The last year champion is Victor Plotkin, and the reserve winner - me.

        I'll probably play :)

Thanks! Victor is likely on his way back from Aeroflot tournament (if it is finished?) Last I checked, he was 4.5/7 in Group C as I recall.

26 games (out of the 28 played) from the 2011 Closed, and all 10 games from the Reserves are available on CanBase.

Update and bring to the top :)

                The new TD: Alex Ferreira.

Rumors: the champion is coming to defend the title.

                          Are both sections FIDE rated?

                            Hi Erik,

My understanding is that only the top section will be FIDE-rated.
The turn-out for the reserves section is unpredictable and an 8 player round robin would require 4 players to have an established FIDE-rating, which we cannot guarantee. It will of course, be rated with the CFC.
