  • Carlsen and Fischer on 60 Minutes

Chessbase reports that this Sunday (February 19) on CBS at 7 p.m. ET, the television show 60 Minutes will have a segment on Magnus Carlsen. On the Chessbase site is a clip from the 1972 show on Bobby Fischer preparing for the World Championship match

Mike Wallace does the interview and Fischer speaks well. He disdains a birthday cake and plays blitz with a young 12-year-old, Louis Cohen. It was very interesting to see again after 40 years.

That would have been LEWIS (or "Lew") Cohen. He played in the 1974 Canadian Open in Montreal, scoring 7.5/11. Born in 1960, his few recorded games span the years 1972 to 2007.

"Lewis Cohen never lost a game in the National Elementary Championships, scoring 40-0." http://www.logicalchess.com/info/trivia/c.html

He was one of the players profiled in "My Seven Chess Prodigies" (John W. Collins, 1974). The other six were: Bobby Fischer, Robert Byrne, William Lombardy, Donald Byrne, Raymond Weinstein, and Sal Matera.
