  • Toronto - "non-club" chess

I was in Toronto over the weekend, and by accident - Saturday night about 9 pm - ran into a group of chess players in the food court (level L3) in the AMC/Future Shop complex at Dundas/Yonge. There were 6 or 7 tables going - some with clocks.

Is this a documented chess gathering place? Does it meet daily?

    Hi Hugh,

It is (in a manner of speaking), they're a fraternity of
travelling blitz aficionados who frequent a coupla spots.
They drop by our Store to buy new clocks every other month:-)

AMC (3rd floor on the left side of the food court) is the blitz center of Toronto during winter. After winter, they move over to the park along Queen and Church street.

Spotted playing here is the Russian girl master, who until now ihave not seen.

You can find here Eddie Mark as the top player. Also the player nicknamed "touch movie".

Players her give odds like 2 min 10 sec vs 5 min for a McDonald meal per game.
