And a few photos from the event - taken in round 4.

Second to last photo shows one of the color-coded wall charts that John Brown likes to create. Big logjam for second place after four rounds.

And the last photo is of a roast beef sandwich, which Drew serves at the Niagara Falls Open each year. If you haven't played chess in the Niagara Shrine Club before, the sandwiches alone are worth it!

Re: Results from the 2012 Niagara Falls Open!

Here are the rest of the results for the Niagara Falls Open held on April 14th & 15th.

In the U1700 section, we had a tie for 1st with both players beating yours truly. Jeffrey Xu and Avery Jones had 3.5 points. Lee Hendon and Troy Hansen had 3 points. Our top Junior was Jackie Peng who just missed out on winning the whole tournament. Zachary Dukic was 2nd. There was a special prize given out to Benjamin Lin of a free membership. This was donated by John R. Brown in memory of the late Alex Strojevs.

We had 6 unrated players play and David MacMillan was 1st. Jared Thomson was 2nd and Josh MacMillan and Ricardo Zocadagui tied for 3rd. Hunor Benedek received a special prize for finishing with the fewest points. All of these players received a book prize.

We also have prizes for those who upset higher rated players, but don't win any cash prizes. First place went to Jaime Solis, who won a Chess Base Magazine Disc. He was followed by Steve Tukonic, Guiseppe Del Duca, William J. Mollison, Janet Peng and Chris Vanderlee, who each received a book prize.

John R. Brown won an additional prize donated by William J. Mollison.

Special thanks to the Niagara Shrine Club, who has been the host for every Niagara Falls Open. Drew Ward supplies the roast beef sandwiches, which you can see in Walter De Jong's post. Thanks to Walter De Jong, John R. Brown and William J. Mollison donating various book and cash prizes. Thanks to John R. Brown for his help in various capacities too numerous to mention.

Next year's Niagara Falls Open will be held on April 13th & 14th, same place.

Re: Results from the 2012 Niagara Falls Open!

Thanks John Erickson. We could not run this tournament without your
          exceptional personality and hospitality.

Just some additions about the prizes.

Mr. Ward presented the eight Juniors with a small travel chess set.

We also had 9 cash prizes.
          10 book prizes.
          One chess set donation.
          One membership donation.

Making a new record for us ,giving 21 players a chance at a prize.
With prize sharing we actually gave out prizes to 23 players.

I would also like to thank the players who attended this year's event.
You all made the contest to first very competitive and we even had a few time scrambles to keep us on our toes right till the end.

We gained 6 new unrated players (our most ever) and 5 paid there membership dues for the year.
