  • Chess - like the good old days

Here's a game from a big Active tournament in Montreal last Sunday. Nothing is nicer than to see White play a gambit and Black accepting everything. It was a last round game with money on the line. White declines to take the draw at move 20; Black misses the outright win with 31....Qxc2 (if 32 Rf2, then Rh2+); White misses a probable draw with 32. Ng6+.

This thread is worthless without diagrams unless you are H.Jung :D

    After 20 Black move

Find an the Black outright win :)

The last check (make a right White 32 move)

From the first diagram ....Rg2ch followed by Rxh2ch and Rg1ch looks to win simply. Did I miss something?

I don't think it's winning. After 21.Rg2+ Kh7 22.Rxh2+ Kg8 23.Rg1+ Kf7 my engine thinks both 24.Nc4 or 24.Rh7+ are equal. Well, if I let it run longer it prefers 24.Nc4, e.g. 24...Rh8 25.Rg7+ Ke6 26.Rg6+ Kf7 27.Rg7+ with perpetual. Of course simply 21.Rf7+ is an immediate draw. Looks like Bator simply overpressed.
