  • Results for the 2012 Kitchener Waterloo QUICK Open

There were 13 pre-registered players and it was uncertain if we would have many more. However, I'm glad to report that the tournament was attended by 24 players (Ed Thompson predicted 20-30 players) and everyone seemed to enjoy the day of QUICK chess.

    Following are the results:

    1st place - Jura Ochkoos 4.5/5

2nd place - (father and son) Victor and Mark Plotkin 4/5

3rd place - Derick Joshua Twesigye 3.5/5 (1st round bye)

The tournament was played in one "Open" section but since we had 8 players in the "B" section and 6 players in the "C" section, we had one prize for the highest score in both the "B" and "C" sections. They are as follows:

"B" section: Four people tied with 3/5 - Istvan Kiss, Hongyi (Tony) Li, Daniel Coren, and Garrett Forsyth.

    "C" section: Daniel Yurkewich 2.5/5

We started off playing round one in the Conastoga Room on the main floor but there was a bizarre/fair of sorts going on today, complete with musicians and "loud" volume so with the cooperation of all the players we moved to the cafeteria on the 10th floor. Thanks to everyone for your assistance and participation. You made it a great tournament.
