  • Zissos-Pajak, Edmonton, 1979

An interesting (but LONG) game from the Canadian Open, Edmonton, 1979. (I am entering games from the post-tournament newsletter sent out to all participants). These (and many other "new" games) will show up in my database in the next update (within the next couple of weeks). If you can't connect to this link now, try again later.

    Some comments:

The game was adjourned after move 60 (Black). White K on h4; White Q on b7; Black K on c3; Black Q on a4; Black P on b5. Black started giving a string of useless checks around move 70 in order to try to adjourn a second time. The notes don't say if he was successful or not. I started entering the subsequent moves into a tablebase (e.g. http://www.k4it.de/index.php?topic=egtb&lang=en ) to see where White missed the draw (game notes read "White mishandled his checking pattern somehow - where is unknown").
All moves from move 60 yield a "draw" result from the tablebase, until move 96 by White (Kg7 leads to "Lose in 49" - whereas Qc1, Qc5, Qc6, Qc7, and Qd5 all draw).
