This week sees the last round of the Toronto Closed.
After Roman Sapozhnikov's withdrawal, top-rated Artiom Samsonkin finishes a week early with 5.5/8.
Three other players can finish with 5.5:
Tie-breaks will be head-to-head, followed by Sonneborn-Berger.
In other words, Vlad Birarov has a mathematical way to win the event, but a tough road ahead; Michael Song has a good shot at it, if he wins his game against Victor; and it would be worth Artiom's while to help Victor prep for his upcoming games :)

After Roman Sapozhnikov's withdrawal, top-rated Artiom Samsonkin finishes a week early with 5.5/8.
Three other players can finish with 5.5:
- Victor Plotkin currently has 3.5/6, with games to play against Vlad Birarov and Michael Song.
- Vlad Birarov currently has 3.5/6, with games to play against Plotkin and Michael Kleinman
- Michael Song currently has 4.5/7, with a game to play against Plotkin.
Tie-breaks will be head-to-head, followed by Sonneborn-Berger.
- If Victor wins both games, he still loses on head-to-head, having lost his game with Artiom.
- If Vlad wins both games, he wins on head-to-head, having won his game with Artiom.
- If Michael wins his game, he ties on head-to-head with Artiom, but wins on Sonneborn-Berger.
- If both Vlad and Michael Song beat Victor, and Vlad beats Michael Kleinman as well, then it looks like Vlad wins on Sonneborn-Berger, if my calculations are correct.
In other words, Vlad Birarov has a mathematical way to win the event, but a tough road ahead; Michael Song has a good shot at it, if he wins his game against Victor; and it would be worth Artiom's while to help Victor prep for his upcoming games :)
