Re: Round 4 - the line-up for today

Hazel lost I believe Kb5 allowed the Knight a faster route to the action.

Yes good effort hopefully a character builder that tells them they are capable of beating teams this calibre. Well done Irina Barron who patiently waited for her chance to play and got two wins for her team.

          Hi Lee:

Thanks. I discovered it at the end ( when the world was saying Yuanling lost . Thought I'd better re-check it !! )

Re: Round 4 - the line-up for today

There were no upset matches in the women's (at least not at the top), but a couple of upset draws. Hungary drew powerhouse Georgia, overcoming a 100 point rating swing. We all think of USA or Canada as "melting pots", but only one of Hungary's players in the list today has a Hungarian-sounding name. Even that one had a different origin. Szidonia "take no prisoners" Vajda is a product of the Romanian School of Chess. Her name is Hungarian, but Elisabeth told me that the most important element in her moving was that the Hungarians gave her a better (monetary) offer.

Lithuania overcame even greater odds by drawing #2 ranked Ukraine, which is struggling. On board 2 their diamond game ended in an unexpected checkmate, just like the board 2 game of Ciuksyte, playing for England, also ended in checkmate. Is there Lithuanian synchonicity in the cosmos?
