  • What Section Should I play in?

Hi, I just lost the following game on the internet (I was black). In order to help me determine what section I should play in for my next chess tournament, I need someone to tell me approximately what strength are the white and black players.

    1. d4 e6 2. Nf3 f6 3. Bf4 Bd6 4. Bxd6 cxd6 5. Nc3 Ke7 6. e4 f5 7. exf5 exf5 8.
    Bd3 g6 9. O-O Nf6 10. Qe2+ Kf7 11. Qd2 h6 12. a3 Nc6 13. Rfd1 Rh7 14. h3 a6 15.
    Be2 b5 16. Qf4 Qc7 17. Qh4 Ne7 18. Nxb5 axb5 19. Bxb5 Bb7 20. Ne1 g5 21. Qg3
    Ng6 22. Qb3+ Bd5 23. c4 Be4 24. c5+ Bd5 25. cxd6 Qxd6 26. Bc4 Be6 27. d5 Nxd5
    28. Bxd5 Qa6 29. Bxe6+ dxe6 30. Nd3 Nf4 31. Nxf4 gxf4 32. Qf3 Kg6 33. Qxf4 Qa4
    34. Qxa4 Rxa4 35. Rd3 Rb7 36. b3 Ra8 37. Re3 Rb6 38. Rg3+ Kf7 39. Rc3 Rd6 40.
    a4 e5 41. Rc7+ Kf6 42. Rc3 Kg5 43. Re1 Re8 44. g3 Red8 45. Rxe5 Rg6 46. f4+ Kf6
    47. Rc6+ Kf7 48. Rxf5+ Ke7 49. Rxg6 1-0

    What was the opponents rating
Which Tournament are you preparing for?
What is the time control at the tournament?

Re: What Section Should I play in?

Even if you two were playing 1 minute chess on the internet, there were tactical mistakes (givaways) made by both sides that were novice level errors (White got away in the end with an inexplicable big one at move 18).

Both sides also made novice positional mistakes, such as badly misplacing rooks, but Black's, in the opening (e.g. at move 6), should have proven the more serious. However the end result of the tactical errors, of which Black made the majority, decided the game, which is normally to be expected.

Hard to guess precisely based on one game, but fwiw I'd put White's strength at about 1400 and Black at about 1350.

Btw I didn't look at the game with a computer (don't think I needed to).
