  • Dumbest "like chess" comment?

From an article in BBC travel about haggling in bazaars:

"It's like a game of chess. It's the first one who blinks [who loses]."

Maybe if you blink they slip a rook off the board?

I normally look at the position on the board and not my opponent.

With cell phones, if a player is in his "zone", why does he even notice a phone ringing?

        (he can also be she)

Yes. I suppose cheating is a problem and the TD's will have be more vigilant.

Short of banning all non implanted electronics in the playing and adjoining area, the experts of modern electronics and players with limited talent will find ways to beat the system.

Look at London 2012. The real Olympics. The officials were forfeiting athletes for not trying to win. Something about losing getting them an easier game in the next round.

Ah yes, badminton. The world badminton body (not sure what it's called) implemented a new elimination system which a lot of players objected to. So when the top team from China lost one of its preliminary matches, teams could avoid playing them in the next elimination round by losing a match themselves!

Obviously this tactic was not within the spirit of the Olympics, or sports in general, and the IOC took it very seriously, as did badminton's governing body.

Excellent article... Sad that this happens in so many chess communities today.
