  • Nuclear chess game

During a trip to Lithuania we went to a former USSR nuclear missile base, now it became a Cold War Museum. (They have cool panoramic views of the object at http://www.saltojokaromuziejus.lt Though it works only in a Lithuanian version... just click "Virtual turas" http://www.saltojokaromuziejus.lt/virtualus-turas )

There was a document from a U.S. CIA with a catching word CHESS
I think both parts wanted just to play a game, even if pieces were nuclear warheads :D

No. The director was a former spy and created a movie :D The base was built even before Fischer-Spassky match.

Google gives you a bunch of similar CIA documents when you do a search for "top secret chess ruff". I assume "chess" was either an acronym or simply a code word in this context.

CHESS is probably just a code name for images brought by reconnaissance planes U-2, the one which flew to Cuba to cause a crisis, and the one which was shot there.
          RUFF from satellites.
Could it be an acronym? Maybe.

My dictionary says that "ruff" is a card game :D
