Some other FIDE titles awarded that may be of interest to Canadians:

Anton Kovalyov (GM; ARG). Does that mean that Argentina will have to fork over the cash for the title, and not Canada?

Matthieu Cornette (GM; FRA). Tied for 1st in the 2008 Canadian/Quebec Open.

Chris Mallon has been awarded the title of "FA" (I think that's one rank below "International Arbiter").

Yeah Argentina will pay for the title, all that matters is your FIDE federation and if they're willing to pay. I assume by inviting Kovalyov to the Argentina championship and a spot on the olympiad team(and paying for his GM and IM titles) means he's gonna stay with them for at least a while.

Well, yes Argentina will be billed for his title. But that's pocket change, IF he ever now wanted to play for Canada we'd have to fork out a lot MORE for the federation transfer.

If there isn't, this is an excellent suggestion!

GM's and IM's, and WGM's and WIM's at least could be on a list on the CFC website - there's not all that many of them, and it should not be that hard to update it.

Hi Chris:

Is there a link on the FIDE site, where you can get a list of all FIDE rated players from one federation? I went to " Ratings " and it didn't seem to have it. I checked " Federations " and when I got to Canada, it seemed to only have a list of the Canadian IA's. Thanks.
