  • Best chess clock to buy?

A friend wants to buy a digital chess clock, must be easy to set. His Chronos has just died.

I'm thinking Saitek III. Any other options?

I like the Saitek III pro as well but that is mainly because it is the clock that you use for all the Windsor tournaments and it is the one that I got used to using. They seem to hold up well over time.

Even the kids have trouble setting some of those other clocks.

Buy another Chronos! How old was the one he had? Did it really "die" or did it need new batteries? The ones at Montreal's Cafe Pi are still working perfectly after 5 or 6 years of nightly banging. Chronos does (or used to have) a (almost?) free repair service - send it back to them (I think you just pay for the postage both ways). Check their website.

At one of my chronos clocks, one of the led is burned. O found a chess parent who offered to change the original ones with bigger, brighter ones.

While I'm on the subject, so to speak, does anyone know a place that will fix Saitek III clocks?

Good luck... as I reported in a different thread, my Saitek3 disintegrated when I tried unscrewing the base plate: the screws had been glued in and the glue was stronger than the metal in the screws, so their heads sheared off and the glue didn't budge. After that the only way to get inside was to break it.
