  • Yellow Card, Red Card

Since we already adopt the elo system for our chess rating which is used in soccer maybe chess tournaments can benefit from using the yellow card, red card demerit system that soccer uses as well. If you are awarded two yellow cards for bad behaviour in a single tournament you are out of that tournament. One serious infraction gets a red card and eliminates you from that tournament. For instance a cell phone going off gets you a yellow card, a crying kid gets a yellow card, an opponent who is deliberatley letting his clock run in a lost position gets a yellow card. Beating Mate Milinkovic in the tournament gets you a red card.

    Mate,

I would have to agree with that. That's the same as if a team is down 5-0 with a few minutes remaining and they decide to pick cherries until the final whistle blows. The coach would receive a warning if the referees suspect that the players have stopped playing on the advice of the coaching staff.

That has happened in professional sports in the past, and is akin to the 2012 Olympic Badminton scandal that went on where duos deliberately lost certain matches to avoid playing a super-strong Chinese duo. This was a flaw in the newly-legislated pairing system that the IBA had put in place for this year's olympics, and several teams were disqualified for throwing matches. Although it was a "strategy," it also showed poor sportsmanship.

Hey, if you don't want to get mated, then change your name to something that doesn't start with "Mate Mi" :D

No matter how big and bad you are, when a two-year-old hands you a toy phone, you answer it.
