  • Why the cow and chess pieces?

Today's Google Doodle honors Spanish engineer Leonardo Torres Quevedo who invented the Whirlpool Aero Car. In the illustration (you can find it on the Google home page or at http://www.thestar.com/living/techno...o-car-inventor), the inventor is pictured in the Whirlpool Aero Car with two chess pieces and a cow. Just plain old fancy on the part of a graphic artist or is there a story here?

Did you forget to check Wikipedia?

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonardo_Torres_y_Quevedo

Chess (King and Rook looks like are in the picture)
In early 1910, Torres began to construct a chess automaton...that was able to automatically play a king and rook endgame against king from any position, without any human intervention.
    Cow (one):
The cableway was some 200 metres across and was pulled by a pair of cows
Seems that another cow still works :D
