  • Open de Vandoeuvre

I arrived last night from Germany to spend New Year's Eve in France! I am playing in the 9th Open de Vandoeuvre: a 9-round norm tournament taking place January 2nd - 6th, 2013.

There are currently five 2550+ GMs registered, and a full list of participants is available here

The main webpage for the tournament is here, where you can find information and specifics. I don't know about live games, nor about the use of chess-results. I'll have a better idea tomorrow once things get started.

European playing halls: more legroom, more space, and incomparably cheaper than hotels.

"There are currently five 2550+ GMs registered, and a full list of participants is available here"

And the 6th GM Matthew Turner may be familiar to the Saturday Rapid players as he played in our event a couple months ago (and did not even mention that he was a GM at the time). Now how many GMs would be so modest and not fish for a free entry?
      Anyway, go get 'em Aman!

          Aman,

Looks like you're on a nice roll!!

Any chance you could post your win with black against GM Malakhatko?

          Keep on rolling!!!!!

No matter how big and bad you are, when a two-year-old hands you a toy phone, you answer it.

After round 4, Aman is in a 3-way tie for 2nd with 3 1/2. Aman plays White on board 2 while tourney leader Matthew Turner 4-0 is on board 1.

Aman, if you invent a new opening there, it can be called the Vandoeuvre manoeuvre!

                  I actually laughed :)

David, Alberto (2599) - Hambleton, Aman (2462) from round 5.

A terrible pairing in round 8 (2223) means even though I was victorious and now stand at 5.5/8 I cannot make the GM norm. If my opponent in round 8 was 2450 then a win tomorrow would have been just enough for the norm.

As it is, I'm just playing for a final placing, with a win I think I only climb to a 2570~ performance :( We will see how the tournament finishes up tomorrow morning!

In fact before the game I asked her if she remembered you and indeed she did. I passed on a greeting from you and she was glad to know you're doing well (which may have been a lie but I had to assume so for conversational purposes :)).

She is indeed an attractive sight, but in round 8 I had to desecrate her over the board. It was truly a shame we had to become acquainted in such a fashion.

                          Great.

Can you still capture any prize?

What will be next? Back home?
