  • FIDE rating inquiry

The Guelph tournament on Feb 9, 10 is Fide rated for the U2000 section that I would be playing in. Does this mean my CFC wont change from the result of this event as I will only be getting a FIDE rating from this event. I dont want to play this tournament if I am not going to be playing for CFC rating points. I dont care about a FIDE rating as I will never become a professional chess player. I love chess but I know I will never be as nerdy about chess as the experts and masters above me are so I would be content with a class A rating for life. My goal is to get to class A and enjoy that rating for as long as I play tournaments.

I played in Guelph previously. It changed my CFC rating. For the one game I played against another FIDE rated player it changed my FIDE rating as well but only for that one game.

I believe that for a (Canadian) tournament to be FIDE-rated, it must also be CFC-rated, and all its participants must be CFC members (or FQE members - if a Quebec resident). You can't have a (Canadian) tournament that is only FIDE-rated.

Yes, Hal's Guelph tournaments are CFC rated, all sections.
I see his ad doesn't specifically say so, but I would be shocked otherwise.
It is implied, but the ad should say so explicitly.

But now I see that Garvin did not say so explicitly in our ad for the Hamilton Winter Open. :o Oops, I will fix that in a minute.
Yes, Hamilton Winter Open is CFC rated. :D

Of course Guelph is CFC rated! Tournaments in Canada which are FIDE rated must also be CFC rated, as Hugh indicated. It has been ever thus, although some exceptions have happened.

I hope you can join us Mate! It should be a great tournament, nerdy masters and all!
