Two games from today's TWIC 957

    Game 1
The first round GM vs. non-GM game in a big open will usually go unnoticed and be forgotten quickly. Here white tried the London System against the Hungarian Champion GM Berkes. Black responded aggressively with a King's Indian with an anti-London twist that should be noted.

    Cherednichenko,E (2175) - Berkes,F (2702)
    London System vs King’s Indian[A48]
    Karpos Open 2013 Skopje MKD (1.2), 09.03.2013

    Game 2
Hungarian champion GM Berkes,F declined the invitation to a sharp Benoni/Benko and a sharp game and steered the game into a King's Indian struggle with a closed position with and queenside vs kingside race.

    Berkes,F (2702) - Battaglini,G (2436)
    Quasi King’s Indian by transposition[E10]
    Karpos Open 2013 Skopje MKD (2.2), 10.03.2013

      TWIC 957
Hungarian junior Sebastian Peczely collected a GM scalp at the Karpos Open in rd1. GM Malakhatko,V took some liberties in the opening and was punished in style. However, Peczely had to win the game twice after letting the GM off the hook.

      Malakhatko,V (2571) - Peczely,S (2072)
      English Symmetrical 5.a3 e6 6.Rb1 Nge7 [A36]
      Karpos Open 2013 Skopje MKD (1.23), 09.03.2013

GM Hansen is also playing in this tournament and has 3.5/4.
