3 games of GM Hansen,E Rds 3-5 Karpos Open. Thanks to Hugh Brodie for posting the PGNs. The rd3 game is my favorite. It looks like chess from another planet.

    Rd5
GM Hansen lost a tough game when black was saddled with a weak e-pawn in the game. Eventually white picked off the weak pawn and converted in a queen ending.

    Rd4
GM Hansen won a mysterious game using outright aggression in the early stages on the kingside. In the middlegame, the action switched to the queenside but the final position is equal when the game score ends.

    Hansen,Eric (2557) - Bogdanovski,Vlatko (2444)
    Caro-Kann Advance[B12]
    Karpos Open 2013 Skopje, hotel (4.24), 11.03.2013

    Rd3
GM Hansen played a very creative defensive game and won by breaking conventional rules. His king too a walk early, the kingside pawns launched forwards while black remained undeveloped any yet white was suffocated and then crushed.

    Schoorl,Rob (2350) - Hansen,Eric (2557)

The King's Indian Attack can be tricky to defend against.

In the feature game, Hungarian GM Banusz defends in classical fashion refusing to give any space advantage on either wing. After white tries to force the issue on the kingside, the defense sprang to life and energetically took over the game.

Veteran GM Damljanovic used some original maneuvers to obtain a strong position and win a pawn.

        Trends in the French Tarrasch
The full retreat 6...Qd8 is coming into fashion as an alternative to 6..Qd6 as a way to avoid well established main theory.

        Feature Game
GM Salgado Lopez,I used non-standard development(...Ne7-g6) and subtle maneuvering to gain the advantage in the feature game. After winning a pawn, the RR-RR/R-R endgame contained instructive typical methods for technical play.
