    Finally ...

I'm having problems with my keyboard [being computer illiterate doesn't help] so I'm posting these games without the pgn format. Sorry about that. Since I have had a few inquiries about the games, I thought it would be better to get them posted before we have another tournament and really confuse everyone.

And there were a few games that I couldn't decipher. Yinshi Li and Mike Ivanov in Round 2 had a really interesting endgame that I was hoping to post but I couldn't make out all the moves so if either one of them happen to read this post and want to give me a legible copy I would be glad to post it here with the other games.

Note that some of the PGN conventions aren't being followed in these games and some editing may be required.

For castling - the upper-case "O" must be used, with the two (or three) "O"'s separated by a hyphen ("-").

In these games, the number zero ("0") and a double-hyphen ("–") were used (note that this type of hyphen is slightly longer than the regular one). These characters are unreadable by PGN readers (or Chessbase), causing invalid/incomplete gamescores. This also affects the game results where the "double-hyphen" was also used, resulting in "Line" appearing for the result, instead of 1-0, 0-1, or 1/2-1/2.

I have corrected all the games, and they will appear in Canbase in the next few days (maybe in a few hours).

                Thanks Hugh,

I wasn't aware of the "double-hyphen" or upper case "O" instead of zero. My computer didn't come with those instructions. I'm learning on the fly. :)

Thanks for the info. I will definitely do it correctly the next time and cut out the extra work for someone else. I'm guessing that would be you?

I post the games because I don't like to see games go down the rabbit hole, especially games with our top players and GM Sambuev. I guess it's natural, as a historian, I like to preserve history.

You're doing a great job with your site.

As much as I dislike my games being shown, I find it terrible that no one has probably thanked Ralph for putting the time and effort to write down these games. Thanks Ralph, many interesting games were played that weekend!

I would like to thank everyone who posts games from their events - we need to keep them for posterity!

A Canbase update will be ready shortly - I will probably await games from the last couple of weekends (BC and Alberta in particular) before finalizing everything.

I'm using Chessbase - actually it is using the zeros for castling and the double-hyphens. Don't understand that.

Thanks Adam and Hugh - and I thought this was a thankless job.

don't know about hyphens, but "0" vs "O" comes from the FIDE handbook (0 null) and PGN standards (a capital O).

SCID vs PC saves as O-O

Re: KW Winter Open Chess Games

Assorted lengths of hyphens and dashes can be created.

The standard hyphen or minus sign ("-") is usually just to the right of the zero on the keyboard. It can be also simulated by holding the ALT key and typing 045.

                            - (ALT-045)
                            – (ALT-0150)
                            — (ALT-0151)
                            – (this was the one used in the games posted in this thread, which is the same as ALT-0150).
