  • Kings Gambit Opening Trap Question

With regards to the Kings Gambit opening trap for Black:

    1. e4 e5 2.f4 Bc5 3.fe5 Qh4+ 4.g3 Qe4+ 5. Qe2 Qh1

From my experience, Black's queen often gets trapped after capturing the white rook.

I was wondering if anyone would know any lines for black that allow black the option of freeing the queen?

Question 2: Is black resigned to the idea of the queen being trapped and the likehood that black will likely trade the queen for one of white's minor pieces?

King's Gambit is an exciting, sharp opening for us patzers.

    6. d4

    A) If the Queen gets trapped by an eventual 0-0-0 then 2 R's for the Q isn't bad:

    6... Bxd4 7. Nf3 Nc6 8. c3 Bc5 9. Bf4 d5 10. exd6+ Kf8 11. Nbd2 Bg4 12. 0-0-0 Re8 13. Qd3 cxd6 14. Bxd6+ Bxd6 15. Qxd6+ Nge7 16. Bc4 Qxd1+ -3.38

    B) My computer likes to get the Q out:

    6... Qxg1 7. Be3 Qh1 8. dxc5 Ne7 9. Nc3 Nd5 10. Bd2 Nxc3 11. Bxc3 Qd5 -4.76

Of course, if White is a regular King's Gambit player they likely won't play 3. fxe5? but Nf3 or Nc3 with a good game.

Thanks Eric for your feedback. I especially like the line you provided that frees the queen. I have witnessed several blitz games where the person playing black captures the white rook oh h1 with the queen and the queen becomes trapped. But, as you said, two rooks for a queen is good compensation.

Instead of hitting the Nf3 with Bg4, another interesting idea is b6 and Bb7 and Black can exchange Queens:
        1. e4 e5 2. f4 Bc4 3. fxe5 Qh4+ 4. g3 Qxe4+ 5. Qe2 Qxh1 6. Nf3 b6

        A) 7. d4 Bb4+ 8. c3 Ba6! 9. Qf2 Qxf1+ -5.37
        B) 7. Nc3 Bb7 8. Ne4 Be7
        bi) 9. d4 (or 9. d3) f5 10. exf6 Nxf6 11. Nxf6+ gxf6 12. Kf2 Bxf3 13. Qxf3 Qxf3; 9. Kf2 -4.81
        bii) 9. Kf2 Nh6 10. h3 Bc5+ 11. Nxc5 Bxf3 12. Qxf3 Qxf3+ -4.95
        biii) 9. g4!? Bh4+ 10. Nxh4 Qxe4 11. Qxe4 Bxe4 -5.13

        I found a juniors' game in a database with 5. Ne2 and Black's Q easily got out:

        [[Event "FR tt"]
        [Site "?"]
        [Date "1996.??.??"]
        [Round "?"]
        [White "Rost, T."]
        [Black "Levacic, M."]
        [Result "0-1"]
        [ECO "C30"]
        [PlyCount "98"]
        [EventDate "1996.??.??"]
