  • CFC ratings/when do they come out?

I forget when CFC ratings are computed and updated and can't find it on the website. Is it still weekly on Wednesdays? By what time? Thanks.

Usually every Wednesday - before midnight Eastern (9 pm. Pacific)

You can download the complete rating list from the CFC here:

    http://www.chess.ca/sites/default/files/cfcmembers.mde

PS -- you can VIEW the entire database here: http://www.chess.ca/sites/default/files/tdlist.txt

Note that you likely need Microsoft Access [a component of Microsoft Office] to load the .mde file that Mark mentions in the link to the complete rating list... (the second one - tdlist.txt is a simple text file)

There are alternative ways to import the .mde file into other database programs... Google is your friend.

My memory may be imperfect, but I'm sure that for a long time the latest ratings update has come on Thursdays (sometimes delayed until Friday). They used to come out officially on Wednesdays, but the declaration as to what day of the week they were to be updated (i.e. Wednesdays) was removed from the CFC website after people commented so much whenever the update happened to be later than a Wednesday.

Just my recollection of the history of this topic, though.

For more than 5 years now, the CFC ratings have been done on wednesday. Exactly what time depends on several factors, but the deadline is midnight. On a few occasions, it has been delayed to thursday or friday due to technical difficulties.

In that case, there's a little over to four hours to go, at least today (a Wednesday). Here's the X-tables for across Canada from the CFC website, which at the moment show no events submitted this week afaik. The most recent seems to be from last week (an April 2 event):

Fwiw, I've checked the CFC website even quite a few thursday mornings, and still ratings haven't been updated (much later in the day thursday, they are).

This week's ratings have been done, before the deadline, tonight. Don't know exactly what time it happened. Perhaps the CFC could post the time or day updates are done on the website as done on the old website, plus the CFC's update deadline policy.

I'm still waiting to see if the RA Spring Active will be rated. It was over several weeks ago. Not sure if was received by the office, the TD/organizer may have been unusually late. Not that I mind it not being rated, since my Quick rating would/will take a hit.

In case I was suffering from something akin to a Gaslight phenomenon, I did a search of chesstalk using the keywords "ratings update" and found some old threads of interest. One such:

N.B.: according to my perpetual calendar, 15 Dec. 2011 was a Thursday.

For those who haven't heard of the movie Gaslight, it's an old 1944 classic. Stars Ingrid Bergman. Here's a brief description, which includes a mention of the gaslighting psychological tactic that was used in the plot:

Our multiweek tournaments at the Scarborough Chess Club finish on Thursdays. I usually have the results submitted to the CFC by Sunday or Monday (occasionally later). Since 2008 (maybe earlier), I have always had updated ratings to work with the following Thursday. Sometimes it was a little earlier, sometimes a bit later but I always had what I needed by the PM on Thursdays. The turn-around has always been quick and efficient - results processed in less than a few days.
