  • Question for any arbiters

As you all may have known, I made an 8 round norm at DC International but because of restrictions (limit 6 from one federation when I played 7) I was not able to get one. Is it possible to appeal this or is the FIDE handbook completely black and white?

    Re: Question for any arbiters

I think the most lenient requirement that FIDE will bend on for GM norms is the performance rating (e.g. 2597-2599 I've seen count as GM norms even though 2600 is the stated requirement). Most other criteria are pretty black and white, like at least 3 GMs, the limit from one federation, etc.

You should try to find precedent for such an appeal if you're considering it.

I think Hal Bond is the FIDE representative for us. Why not ask him? Such a pairing is not your fault and it is reasonable to ask for an exception to be made. However, sometimes when a person asks the answer is no, but it's worth a try.
