  • Bless Me Now With Your Fierce Tears I

Hi. This is an obituary thread. Please don't clutter it up with your latest TN in the Najdorf Sicilian, or the list of reasons why Joe Blow is such a &*(^^(%^. Thanks.

Re: Bless Me Now With Your Fierce Tears I

Manitoba Master Dave Langner passed away yesterday after a long battle with cancer. Dave had many good results, one of which I was a part of so I will comment on.

In 1996, Dave played Board 1 on the annual Manitoba-Minnesota Match and, while the rest of us didn't fare so well, Dave made off with first prize. Here are a few of those games ...

Dave also won the following game against another Manitoba Master, former CFC President Dale Kirton ...

    [Event "Manitoba-ch"]
    [Site "Winnipeg CAN"]
    [Date "1996.??.??"]
    [Round "2"]
    [White "Langner, David"]

    Qe4 27. Qf6+ 1-0

Dave's effort was, I think, the result of a lot of preparation. He used 5 minutes on the clock to Dale's 2 hours.

Dave leaves behind a 4-year-old daughter (Emily) and sisters Janet and Kim. So long, old friend.

That's OK, Michael ... although it's a game that Dave's opponent probably wants to forget. :)

Hi Nigel and Michael! Jack Yoos and David had been working on the Polugaevsky so I thought to try it?? Oops, David crushed me! I forgot my home prep, which was 20...Rh6. Good analyses by Michael! Great game by David Langner, a friend who will be missed.

Yes, I saw some games from 2012 noted by Michael on his blog. One was Spraggett-Dubessay (1/2:1/2).
