It's not supposed to be, and I didn't tell YouTube to make it private, but it is also very long and maybe YT automatically sets long vids as private...?

    I'll check.

    edit:
yep - YouTube must have set it at "private" by default, although it did the others as I want them "public".
    fixed.

    Thanks for spotting it.

Also: Andrei - no books yet

Re: 2013 Canadian Open - Announcements

Are any more PGN games available? They stop at round 3 on the Open's web page. I should be in Ottawa Thursday, and can pick up any stray Open scoresheets, and get them entered over the weekend.

Re: Round 7 - photos and one shock game

More photos from Round 7 (still underway I think... I can't tell from the TD bunker).

I'll edit and post the whole postmortem vid from board 1: Sokolov - Hansen (draw) while watching the Colbert Report tonight.

Also, the PGN for Round 5 is up.

As you may have noticed in some of the rd.7 pix, there are Monroi devices on the tables....

Thanks to Hal Bond and Michael von Keitz for delivering them: they left home at 4am to drive from Guelph to Ottawa to get them here, and worked 2-1/2 hrs to get them running --- with help from Zelka (SP?) over the phone --- and we still couldn't find a way to connect the hub to our computers to put them live on line. :(

We're getting a bit faster at all this.

I think by round 12 we should have it down cold. ;)

Shocking blunder. Poor Raja. Congratulations Aman. Important result. Keep going.

Just a small favor to ask from an avid Eric Hansen fan. I know everybody is extremely busy but could someone post the rd 6 Eric Hansen game? Please, pretty please? Its the only one missing of all the GM Hansen games at the Canadian Open. ----just one game - that would make me so happy!

Ah! You will like that one!!
Against GM Elshan Moradiabadi ... if I'm not mistaken.
Eric Hansen sacrifices an exchange, then a piece (knight), then a rook ... are you still counting ?

Just to nab his opponent's Queen and a deadly attack ...

                      A MUST HAVE!

I was trying to reconstruct it earlier from memory but I couldn't get the move order right.. this is the ending:

                          White played 1.Qf5 Qc5+ 2.Kh2 Bc4 3.Nb7! - then Black blundered with 3...Be6 4.Rg7+ and Black resigned a few moves later.

My 15 yrs old son wrote the moves - I'm only a volunteer that took care of the 2 demo boards that round.
I do not have the score sheet on me but I believe the tournament organizers will post the game soon.
At least you have the critical position posted by Patrick :)

If instead of Be6? , Black would have played Qxe5, he might have had a chance in the ending although the passed a pawn should favour White
