  • You knew it was coming...chess carbon foot-print tournament

Not only for major chess tournament but any person-to-person tournament will be looking at their carbon-foot-print.

Step one: Set the area being covered by the tournament (Canada for the Canadian Open)

Step two: Set a non-refundable pre-registration fee( I suggest 10% of entry fee). Set a due date for these pre-registration fees.

Step three: Calculate the minimum-carbon-foot-print-location(MCFPL). Find the venue at that location and notify players.

Step four: Breath, celebrate for you have being a contributor to a better future.

PS: The MCFPL will closely coincide with the best location for most least travel cost for the average player.

The PS note should have read:
PS: The MCFPL will closely coincide with the best location for least travel cost for the average player.

Nothing new in any of this for a lot of people that are already calculating their carbon footprint for everything they do. So everything needed to calculate it has being available for a while now.
      Sample numbers:
Toronto to Montreal to return trip: By plane Business class= .31 CO2 tonnes
      By plane economy class= .25 CO2 tonnes
      By car (average) = .38 CO2 tonnes
      Happy calculating
