Hans take a break from the big guns and have a look at this game.

    CYCC U8 2013
Young Aiden Mo played a nice attack in the CYCC Under 8 class with a Bxh7+ Sacrifice.

Here is a nice opposite color bishop endgame by GM Sokolov from round 8.

          Michael,

          Some notes from Razvan:

I saw 18... Nxe5 but I decided to sack the e5 pawn so I can get my knight into the game. I didn't like my position after 18.Bf2 but after I analyzed the game it looked OK.

          40. a5 was a mistake. I had less than a minute to make the 40th move and I missed 40. Kf3 which leads to a draw. Playing 2 pawn down against a GM like Sokolov it's not an easy decision to take, especially in time trouble.
King's activity was more important than the a4 pawn. Alexander Yermolinsky has a nice presentation on ICC.

re the game with Aidan Mo as white - well done! - now they have to learn defence and on it goes - but definitely attacking is more exciting especially for those in their first years of tournament chess.

Game 2 should be of interest to Hans. A nice positional squeeze after black chooses the wrong structure on the kingside with ..f4.

                TWIC 978 Sicilian Najdorf Update
                Game 1
6...Nbd7 has become the new main line. White got nothing special in the opening and only made progress late in the middlegame.

                Solak,D (2598) - Kurnosov,I (2657)
                Sicilian Najdor 6.Bg5 Nbd7 [B94]
                Biel MTO 2013

                Game 2
6...e5 has become the main way to defend against the English Attack and the only question is if black will followup with ...h5.

                Cheparinov,I (2678) - Schandorff,L (2522)
                Sicilian 6.Be3 e5[B90]

                War against the Benko
The solid g3 variation continues to be an effective weapon against the Benko. GM Vovk went with the 12.a4(!) line which is the big fashion now.

                Vovk,A (2567) - Cuenca Jimenez,J (2477)
                Benko g3 12.a4[A59]
