General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
Earlier this year, Gabbard claims that she was put on the Quiet Skies Program watchlist (getting extra scrutiny when flying) because she criticized VP Harris. She is now a Republican.
It doesn't surprise me that The Atlantic is butthurt.

For me the following alone is more than worth the price of admission:
RFK Jr. tapped to lead Department of Health and Human Services
President-elect Trump is expected to tap Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, according to a source familiar with the matter.

View original President-elect Trump selected Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to lead the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).
"I am thrilled to announce Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as The United States Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS). For too long, Americans have been crushed by the industrial food complex and drug companies who have engaged in deception, misinformation, and disinformation when it comes to Public Health," Trump said in his annoucment Thursday.
"The Safety and Health of all Americans is the most important role of any Administration, and HHS will play a big role in helping ensure that everybody will be protected from harmful chemicals, pollutants, pesticides, pharmaceutical products, and food additives that have contributed to the overwhelming Health Crisis in this Country."
The announcement comes just over a week after Trump won back the presidency.

RFK Jr. joined the 2024 campaign cycle as a candidate for the Oval Office. Kennedy, who is the son of former U.S. Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy, dropped out of the presidential election in August after initially running as a Democrat, before he switched to an independent run.
Kennedy endorsed Trump shortly after suspending his campaign, and has since hit the campaign trail while touting his plans to "Make America Healthy Again" under a potential Trump presidency.
Kennedy has joined a bevy of Trump campaign events in the lead up to Nov. 5, including speaking at Trump's historic Madison Square Garden rally last month, where he unleashed on the current state of the Democratic Party.

"The Democratic Party is the party of war. It's the party of the CIA. You had Kamala Harris giving a speech at the Democratic convention that was written by neocons. It was belligerent, pugnacious. It talked about domination of the world by the United States through our weapons of war. It's the party today that wants to divide Americans. It's a party that is dismantling women's sports by letting men play women's sports," he said.
"It's the party of Wall Street. It's the party of Bill Gates, who just gave $50 million to Harris. It's the party, and the Harris campaign is very proud that it received the endorsement of 50 former CIA agents and officers and of John Bolton and of Dick Cheney."

Kennedy, who has been a key figure in the Trump campaign since endorsing him, was asked about his potential role in the next White House and whether he would begin "clearing out the top level federal service workers that are currently at the FDA and the CDC."

He continued, "In some categories, their entire departments, like the nutrition department in the FDA, they have to go. They’re not doing their job. They’re not protecting our kids. Why do we have Froot Loops in this country that have 18 or 19 ingredients, and you go to Canada, and it’s got two or three?"
"Mr. Kennedy will restore these Agencies to the traditions of Gold Standard Scientific Research, and beacons of Transparency, to end the Chronic Disease epidemic, and to Make America Great and Healthy Again!" Trump added.
In the 1780s, the U.S. Constitutional creation workers never evidently imagined that a convicted felon, serial bankrupt, and adjudicated rapist, such as Donald Trump, could be elected president, so they didn't think to put those aspects in to disqualify potential candidates.
It doesn't surprise me that The Atlantic is butthurt.
That is why it calls Tulsi Gabbard a gadfly for confronting Harris and Hillary with facts which helped bring about their defeat.
And it forgets that an 'outsider' can bring in some very valuable perspectives which evade those engrossed in a particular activity. That is how the Head of solid organ transplantation had complimented me at Kuwait University (I had joined there to start bone-marrow transplantation and had no previous experience in solid organ transplantation)…

The drafters of the U.S. Constitution would never have imagined that a political party (which they were against) would twist the justice system into such a pretzel.
Trump is also not a convicted felon though uninformed people keep saying that. You are only a felon after sentencing and he has not been sentenced. It is likely that the jury decision will be reversed on appeal many years later once he is sentenced which may never happen as the Dems would prefer that he have a sword of Damocles hanging over his head..

She mentioned this on the late night comedy show Gutfeld which a large contingent of the incoming administration have been guests on, including Trump. Gutfeld has been complaining that they are stealing all his guests.

"
Rest assured, Frank, the "US Constitutional creation workers" knew exactly what they were doing, starting with the first three words: "We The People," who have just spoken their opinion about the merits of these charges you just listed, sprung from Stalinesque like show trial Kangaroo courts. May I remind you that the original basis of the impeachment of President-Elect Trump's first term regarding Russian interference was based on a fake Dosier by Steele bought and paid for by the Hillary Clinton Campaign and, even by special prosecutor Mueller's admission, the whole thing was a giant orchestrated sham!
Now, you expect us to put credence into anything the DOJ cooks up for political reasons?

What Michael Moore has to say about the American people:
"If you stop and think about it, we’ve come up with a lot of doozies in our history," he wrote in a post on MichaelMoore.com. "Like the genocide of 20 million Native Americans. Or the enslavement of 12 million kidnapped Africans. Or us invading Vietnam and killing 4 million Asian people for no reason at all. We are not a good people."
He may be right, but his statement has nothing to do with Trump's desires... if at all, it reminds one of the Democrats' lawfare, and the current hysterical response of the Left wingers and the swamp dwellers to Trump's appointees...

Thank you for that post Frank.
It lays bare the problem with modern-day America dealing with an antiquated Constitution.
As I understand it, given consistent red & blue States in federal elections, no possible amendment would likely get the number of States required (Over 50%) I believe.

I liked Frank's post too. I'm not sure if it's the Constitution itself that is antiquated or the framers' implicit expectation that under stress, basic human decency would prevail. In 2024 it seems that to be President or a cabinet/senior member in the incoming executive branch, you must be civilly liable for, or under investigation for/suspicion of, sex crimes. Now I suppose we can expect the comedy to continue as Trump's big Chesstalk supporters, Sid, Vlad, Dilip, and Tom, slither out to tell us why Matt Gaetz will be an excellent Attorney General.

Trump's Secretary of Defense: Veteran - turned - Fox News host, Pete Hegseth
- appointed after only days of considering...and very little internal vetting.
- Within 48 hours, the heads of Trump’s transition team were brought a complaint about a sexual assault allegation regarding Hegseth. The campaign was brought information that aligns with what Monterey, California, police described as an investigation into “an alleged sexual assault” involving Hegseth on October 8, 2017.
- sexual assault allegation .....stunn[ed] several members of Trump’s team, who have since raised questions about the viability of his nomination, according to two people close to the situation.

Unfortunately politics does not generally attract decent people. No matter the party.
That is because only crooks like to interfere with other people's lives, which is what politicians do under our current system; and our current political system also unnecessarily gives huge power to politicians. Libertarianism can correct all that!
And by reducing the unnecessarily large amounts of money politicians have at their disposal, Elon and Vivek will make a good beginning...

Agreed 100%. The smaller the federal government, one that only deals with things that are critical and can't be performed by the private sector, the better.
Arguments that capitalism is bad because some people are corrupt ignores that government is also made of people.
The difference is that if I don't like the way that say WalMart does business, I can avoid doing business with them. The same cannot be said for a federal government.
