General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
President Donald Trump needs to quit criticizing major allies, such as Canada, Denmark, and Germany.
He presumes to suggest that Canada would be much better off if it joined the USA, as the 51st state. That statement made me the most angry I have ever been towards American leadership.
He bullied Denmark and Greenland, when he suggested the USA should control Greenland, and wants to buy it. And then his vice-president, JD Vance, has waded into internal German politics at a recent Munich international meeting, with European Union members, with a major German election due soon.
Trump's conduct, and that of Vance, is without doubt the most offensive behavior, short of outright war, on international relations, ever by USA leadership, after taking office less than four weeks ago.
Trump seems to be getting along much better with Russian president Vladimir Putin, who had been out of any contact with top USA leadership since his forces invaded Ukraine, just short of three years ago. Former president Joe Biden did not call Putin since Feb., 2022. Trump has been in touch with Putin, recently, planning a summit meeting in Saudi Arabia to resolve the Ukraine war, WITHOUT any European representation, apparently. Trump was the major subject of the book 'Amerikan Compromat', which suggested he is a Russian intelligence asset.

Better that that than being under the thumb of the CCP controlled genocidal gloablists as Canada is now. Even Trump is an improvement. Of course Frank you were the one that made the statement that overall the Chinese have benefitted from the CCP. If you consider 50,000,000 slaughtered during the cultural revolution a "benefit" than of course you would be angry about Trump,

Hi Frank,
How about '1 world 1 nation', where politicians, be it Trump or Trudeau or Xi or Putin, would have no role other than to ensure the enforcement of the Natural Law, and all progress in society would come from the citizens themselves, organized in a well-connected 'circles within circles' set up?
If people truly believed in the spirit behind DEI, they would not be thinking that being Americans is less likable than being Canadians, or that Russians are obvious enemies, or that the Chinese are competitors who need to be feared (competitors are an asset, because they push us into doing things better)... and they would realize it is only the politicians everywhere who instill craziness in their populations (like Trump's encouragement of racism, Trudeau's adoption of socialism, Xi's suppression of free speech/thought, Putin's antagonism of the West)...
Did you know that the Canadian government is spending $143,000 to help the African country of Senegal implement a “sectorial gender strategy” in its armed forces?
Or $46,793 to improve healthcare for intersex people in the Chinese province of Shandong?
What about $4,6 million to develop programs promoting a “positive masculinity” in Cuba?
There are hundreds of such crazy programs costing Canadian taxpayers billions of dollars every year to fund the Liberals’ woke ideology in other countries.
Many people on social media just found out that these programs exist last week, after they started looking for them on the website of the Government of Canada.
They were inspired by similar crazy programs that Elon Musk has unearthed with his DOGE team in Washington.
The DOGE – or Department of Government Efficiency – was created by president Trump and has already cut tens of billions of dollars in frivolous spending after only a few weeks.
I’m being asked if I support having the equivalent of a DOGE in Canada.
Not only do I support it, but I didn’t wait for Trump and Musk to do it to propose one. I did years ago!
In 2020, I stated that a PPC government would have a Minister of Government Downsizing to examine every federal program and cut or abolish everything that is inefficient, wasteful or not essential.
1. Libertarian Party of Canada;
2. People's Party of Canada;
3. Conservative Party of Canada (Leader, Pierre Poilievre, self-describes as a Libertarian, and the party is slowly adopting policies closer and closer to Libertarianism.
Notes:
1. The only democratically elected Libertarian government is that of Argentina, under President Javier Milei - who's government seems to be getting quite uneven results from the implementation of their policies.
2. Now President, Donald Trump, when campaigning, presented to the Libertarian Party of USA Conference, and was booed.
1) Conservative Party of Canada is most definitely not libertarian. Not even close.
2) In the US, many libertarians voted for Trump (from what I've seen their actual candidate, Chase Oliver, was awful) and appear for the most part to be pleased thus far with their choice.
Libertarians are not collectivists so there are many different types of them and they have opinions that diverge wildly.
I voted People's Party of Canada the last two federal elections, and probably will this next one. Before that, I voted mostly for the Libertarian Party except when Brad Thomson ran in my riding in 2004 and 2006.
Of course libertarian policies will not be popular. In the same way that if some morbidly obese person is put on a diet of real food and exercise and you ask them how they like it compared to when they sat around on the couch all day eating cake. Humans are not generally good at delaying short-term gratification for long-term results. Governments know this which is why (for example) Doug Ford gave everyone 200 bucks just before calling an election.

We have had 4 weeks now of Trump 2.0, and hopefully MAGA is beginning to see thru the BS. But as they say, "You can't read the label from inside the bottle".
I came across this British commentator this morning. He seems to understand the situation.
No, he does not. He thinks that grabbing from 49% of the population to give it to the other 51% (the DM method) is what makes one win elections.
However, sensible citizens understand that preventing exploitation and oppression of all, and giving all the opportunity to work hard and smart and not rely on freebies, is what societies need, if they do not want to gradually turn into a Soviet Union or a Venezuela ...
By dramatically reducing the number of immigrant workers, and depending on local production rather than imports, American workers will be able to demand and get a fairer wage, and would be unlikely to get exploited and oppressed...
By reducing stupid regulations and reducing government borrowing, all citizens will get an opportunity to borrow easily to become an entrepreneur...
So Bob G, and Bob A, do you want America to gradually degenerate by adopting DM policies, or do you want our neighbor to become great again, and the Canadian government learning from them?

You would think some English guy would be worried that his country has imported rape gangs and the government is more afraid of people pointing that out than the rapes themselves. But no.

For possibly the first time in history, there are more Republicans than Democrats. The Democrats are picking the short end of every 90/10 and 80/20 and 60/40 issue.
