This is a theoretical part of your modelling. This is not happening under Javier Milei in Argentina.

2nd - we all understand the benefits of scale - large purchasers get larger discounts from suppliers. As long as you allow virtual monopolies, small competitive start ups will fail, unless they can tap into some "niche market". So it seems your model will not work. I think this has been the position here by Pargat Perrer, and others. There is some skepticism that this is functional.

I think that it would take on the ground proof that your Libertarian model is workable in fact.

Access to capital has to be easy, not necessarily free, given that inflation has to be accounted for.
Benefits of scale would also apply to small businesses if they co-operate with each other. And btw, Bob, you do not have to resort to what trolls think (if they ever do), in making your points.
The bottom line is that society should make it easier for people to work hard and smart, rather than rely on handouts from taxpayers... Only then will the economy grow. And forget about the government starting 'businesses', as your DM theory envisions... they have never worked as well as private businesses; for example, Canada's Healthcare system can only improve if we have multiple 'not-for-profit' entities run by Healthcare providers replacing the current very very expensive mess... that way the government can continue to insure the citizens of Canada if they wish... this is already happening on a small level, successfully, in Radiology, and happened for a long time in Family Medicine, till the government regulators started demanding a number of 'free' services from the family physicians...

      Hi Dilip:

Sorry to have used the word "free" access; you have always, I think, referred to "easy" access.

Dilip: "Benefits of scale would also apply to small businesses if they co-operate with each other."

My response: theoretical; very difficult in practice among commercial competitors.

I am sure small businesses are smart enough to understand wherein lies their survival... and work towards it, difficult or not.

I am not the least bit surprised at your attitude.

Does it make any difference? No.

"False memories" .... how about the Bible? The Bible is accepted by faith, not by science.

Just one example among so many....

Jesus supposedly raised a man, Lazarus, from the dead witnessed by a crowd of people. I don't know how long he had been dead, maybe it is mentioned or maybe not ... doesn't matter....

            Think about this logically ...

If you raise someone from the dead in front of witnesses ... what can you expect to happen?

You will be BESIEGED by MAD CROWDS OF PEOPLE with their recently passed or dying loved ones ... they beg you to raise their loved ones from the dead ... heal their sick ....

"BESIEGED" is a total understatement. You won't be able to move, won't be able to hide .... everywhere you go you will be hounded ....

            Did this happen?

Nowhere else but in the Bible ... no one of that time period .. wrote about someone raising a man from the dead ...

OR ANY OF THE OTHER BIBLE MIRACLES ATTRIBUTED TO JESUS.

No crowds of people besieging Jesus ... no one writing about it .....

So.... is the Bible full of "false memories" ????

Meanwhile, in today's world, we have not only Dr. Newton's documented hypnosis sessions which ALWAYS led to the the same ideas (reincarnation, soul perfection over many incarnations on Earth, etc) and we have the research done at the University Of Virginia over many decades ... all very scientifically documented and fact-checked ....

You really have no excuse. You have only bias that in fact you chose to give yourself in this lifetime.

Vlad, as everyone knows, the outcome of fair competition is that someone ends up getting harmed, and we all accept that (a closer to home example being a fairly played chess tournament, in which the losers miss their chances of winning the prize because of someone who wins the tournament). The issue of harming the environment with one's pursuits is also real from the pollution point of view, and as I have said before, the one smart thing Liberals have done is to enact the Carbon Tax, whereby those who harm the environment compensate for it.
Do you have any other examples of unavoidable harm to others?
You previously defined right here on CT that fair competition does not include harm to others. That was your definition of "fair". I'm not going to hunt down that post, but I know it exists because I responded to it RIGHT AWAY as the ultimate failure of your ideology.

Do you deny it? Then please redefine "fair" since you are now reneging on your past definition.

Because if you have this clause that exempts anyone who is engaged in fair competition, then everyone is going to claim it. They are going to claim "fair competition" so that their harm done to others is legitimate under Libertarianism.

SO YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST DEFINE IT.

Otherwise you are a crock of shit.

Again going with pollution from fossil fuels ... if we all agree it is harmful to others (DUH!), the only issue becomes ..... is it fair competition to use fossil fuels when other companies who don't want to harm others refuse to use them?

              and if yes, WHY???

I DARE YOU TO ANSWER THAT WITH ANYTHING APPROACHING LOGICAL SENSE.

You should not harm others in the conduct of 'fair competition', e.g. you should not cheat during your game of chess, but the outcome of fair competition obviously harms the loser, e.g. the loser does not win the prize money.
Justin realized that not using fossil fuels at all is not a viable option for the economy and well-being of Canadians, and hence he introduced the system of Carbon tax to enforce compensation by those who do use fossil fuels.

                    You stupid little sh*t....

trying to confuse the OUTCOME of competition with the competition itself ....

yes, the OUTCOME of competition results in winners / losers ...
but you know damn well that is not the debate ....

we are talking about THE COMPETITION ITSELF and you have admitted using fossil fuels is not fair competition therefore Libertarianism must rule against it. To "compensate" people by carbon taxes is just adding complex layers that aren't needed.

You keep arguing for simplicity and against "stupid laws" ... so simply rule AGAINST any use of fossil fuels because it is not fair competition, as you admit!

Not a viable option? WHAT A COPOUT FROM LIBERTARIANIST POLICY! AND YES, IT IS TRUE, NOT A VIABLE OPTION WHICH MAKES LIBERTARIANISM POLICY A LAUGHINGSTOCK. As Vlad says, not workable in the real world.

In about twenty or thirty years, or perhaps as soon as tomorrow, we will know the absolute truth, or not, because you will be dead very likely along with me. I have more important things to attend to than arguing with you in these remaining years. You are a troll who enjoys arguing. I enjoy arguing as well but it is not a particularly useful trait. The time is better spent learning things which are of use.

                          Hey Dilip,

I like Fareed Zakaria, so thank you for linking to a reliable source.
To quote him regarding the political shift in 2024.

“Voters feel taxed, regulated, bossed around, and intimidated by left of centre politicians for decades, but the results are bad and getting worse.”

Ouch, quite an indictment. But let’s explore that a little.

Governments were rocked by the 2008 financial crisis (caused by a lack of regulations), then the COVID crisis in 2020 (caused by?), increasing effects of climate change, and numerous wars and conflicts with the resulting human migration. The incumbent governments will always take the blame, and so they did.

But is a shift to the right temporary or more long term? I hope democracy will be maintained and the voters will get that choice every few years. Now the US is a special case. Trump has said he wants to be a dictator, joking or not, the signs are there that he does mean it. We will see.

I repeat my earlier question: Trump has promised his MAGA working class base to reverse inflation, more manufacturing jobs, lower interest rates, better health care, higher wages, no more wars, elimination of the national debt, and more. If he really means is, great. Or was it all just empty election promises? Or will he instead choose an agenda more favourable to his new billionaire friends?

                          Just asking!

There was very little Covid crisis. There was a crisis in government over-reach as a reaction to Covid. Fortunately, many of the major culprits are getting tossed. Unfortunately, they are not going to prison. If this doesn't convince people of how big government is bad, then there is no reaching them, in my opinion.

You are absolutely right, Vlad. Even when the absolute truth is revealed, PP the nasty troll will insult the revealer, twist what has been revealed to call it all nonsense, and keep on saying that everyone besides him is a piece of sh.t, a hypocrite, etc. etc.
