It’s been 10 weeks now with Trump 2.0
10 weeks of mental exhaustion watching Trump, Vance, and Musk mauling what is left of US democracy, but finally some signs of life from American pro-democracy forces. Citizens protesting Tesla dealerships, Bernie & AOC doing rallies against Oligarchy, voters challenging their representatives in townhalls, Cory Booker’s filibuster in the Senate, and Susan Crawford’s win for a Wisconsin Supreme Court seat. Is it too little too late?
If so, USA could devolve further into some weird hybrid between Russia and North Korea. If not, it will be a long road back to civilization.
Trump has the whole world awaiting his pronouncements on tariffs later today. He has coined it “Liberation Day”. It may not unfold as he wishes. History may indeed consider it Liberation Day, the day the world liberated itself from Trump.
Thank you to Greenland, Denmark, and Canada for leading the way. I just love my new “Canada is not for sale” t-shirt.

"Protesting Tesla dealerships" lol. Mostly peaceful protests 2.0.

If the USA economy continues to struggle, some Republican members of Congress and Senate will begin to turn against President Donald Trump. He has already received greater leeway than any American president, but it can't be infinite. After Trump's first 100 days of his second presidency, just completed, most elected Republicans are already hearing negativity from their constituents, over the economy, which is almost always the top issue. Economic struggles, mainly too-high inflation, cost Democrats the presidency in 2024. His approval rating of 41 per cent at this juncture since taking office is already the lowest ever recorded in the 70+ years since these measurements began. The legal challenges to Trump's rule are starting to build up as well.
I don't think it is totally out of the question for another impeachment resolution (it would be his third) against President Trump to pass Congress within the next 3+ years. If it occurs, it will probably be after the 2026 midterm elections, in which the Republicans could lose one or both of their legislative majorities. But it will almost certainly not muster the 67 votes of 100 in the Senate which would be needed to remove him from office before completing his term.
