Rounds 6 and 7....were the games Pretell-Diaz forfeits? If so - any special reason?

      Re: games and pix

Pretell-Diaz did not show up for the last two rounds, against the defending Canadian women's champion and the new champion. She should be required to explain her behaviour and if she fails to supply sufficient reason why she (1) could not play and (2) could not advise the TD, I believe serious sanctions should be applied. I would personally favour stripping her of her CFC membership and her right to play in any future CFC/FQE sanctioned events. She has not only insulted two champions but shown contempt for the basic rules of decency in chess.

"On their toes" ... shot has great contextual background with Fencing Equipment.
"Kylie Tan-rd.4" ... shot I interpret her hand signal as CHESS ROCKZ!!!
        Thanks.
I really loved that Fencing Room as a location for a chess tournament: weapons and equipment everywhere, wood floors, mirrors, and natural light.
I wouldn't normally use a photo where a player has their hands in such an unnatural position, but the KT shot where it looks like she's tossing the Heavy Metal Horns is one of the few where her face isn't hidden behind her hair. :)

More pix from rounds 6-7 tomorrow. Happily busy tonight with interview with Agnieszka Matras-Clement; to appear with games in future Chess Canada.

Congratulations to very convincing winner Qiyu Zhou -- Canada's first WGM elect, AFAIK -- who won with 5.5/6, including wins over the next three finishers: WIM Agnieszka Matras-Clement (4.5), Constance Wang (3.5) and defending Champion WIM Natalia Khoudgarian (3.5).

Ms. Tan was awarded U2000 prize of $250 undivided because Ms. Pretell-Diaz did not show up for the last two rounds. While not pleased with how she behaved, lets not waste any time on sanctioning Ms. Pretell-Diaz further.

              Congrats.

                No Show

With great respect, Halldor, if there are no sanctions then others in future will feel, with justification, that they can do the same and simply not show up for important events. I gather that you feel that it is sufficient that the culprit has forfeited her claim to $125 in prize money that she would have received for simply showing up. Perhaps. But at the least, I believe she should be given a formal reprimand and required to post a deposit in future events.

                  Yes.

I did a long interview with AMC after the event and this is one of the things we discussed. Interview and games will be in Chess Canada issue covering the Zonal.
