  • The Saturday Rapid - Nov 9

The Saturday Rapid tournament has take on a life of its own! Even with the competing Guelph tournament, we still had 12 entries.
So, we are likely to have a new kind of problem with the coming 50th anniversary celebration on Saturday with a guaranteed $400 first prize, other prizes augmented, and complimentary buffet lunch all due to three generous sponsors who want the regular rapid to do well!
The new problem is this. >>>>> where will we seat all the expected entries on Saturday?
We can accommodate about 24 players after which we will have to get creative. There is a Pizza Pizza shop next door which may be persuaded to allow a few games – provided the players buy a slice and a coke!
Another problem will be equipment shortage – so we ask all to bring a set and clock if you have them.
Players who arrive late (after 2 pm) may well be out of luck – especially if you don’t bring a set.
So, please RSVP if you intend to play this event!

As an added treat we will be showing game #1 of the world championship match between Champion Vishy Anand and Challenger Magnus Carlsen on the big screen. Sorry, no popcorn!
The match is taking place in Chennai, India.

In that case, those people would be more hammered than Rob Ford by then.

Vlad, you should write in bold where is a playing venue. (I lost track of all places where the tournaments were held LOL
I would like to come too though can not commit yet :/

Very encouraging response to this event - in fact with a few more out-of-town entries one might consider it the Canadian Rapid Championship! Great to see Eric Hansen in the field!
I have been trying to lure Bator Sambuev to join the fray but without success. In the past, there have at times been a carload of players from Montreal - mostly due to the effort of Andre Gulko. So if Andre can bring a car-load of players I will set aside gas expense money for the trip. :)
