  • World Senior Championship 2013

    The World Senior Championship starts tomorrow in Opatija, Croatia. Five Canadians are registered: IM Leon Piasetski, Brian McLaren, William Doubleday, Andre Zybura, and Istvan Kiss.
    Aficionados of chess history may recall the famous gambit tournament won by Rudolf Spielmann at "Abbazia" in 1912. It's the same place.
    Good luck to our guys!

    After two rounds, Brian McLaren has 2 pts, Leon Piasetski has 1.5 pts, and William Doubleday has 1 pt.
    One of the round one gallery photos on the official website shows Leon Piasetski at the board.
    Between this tournament and the European Team Championship there is lots of chess to follow online!

            Thanks. When I checked earlier in the week I came up blank.

              Thanks for those links!

              In addition to the Canadians there are some interesting names:

              Jorn Sloth, former world CC champion when there were no computers to help;
              Jude Acers;
              Bent Sorensen, Danish CC executive;
              Philip M. Giulian, strong Scottish CC player;

              Others, but, the above jumped out at me.
