Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
Article 4: The act of moving the pieces
4.1 Each move must be made with one hand only.
4.2 Provided that he first expresses his intention (for example by saying j’adoube or adjust), the player having the move may adjust one or more pieces on their squares.
4.3 Except as provided in Article 4.2, if the player having the move deliberately touches on the chessboard:
a. one or more of his own pieces, he must move the first piece touched which can be moved.
b. one or more of his opponent’s pieces, he must capture the first piece touched which can be captured.
c. one piece of each colour, he must capture the opponent’s piece with his piece or. If it is illegal, move or capture the first piece touched which can be moved or captured. If it is unclear, whether the player’s own piece or his opponent’s was touched first, the player’s own piece shall be considered to have been touched before his opponent’s.
4.6 When, as a legal move or part of a legal move, a piece has been released on a square, it cannot be moved to another square on this move. The move is then considered to have been made.
Article 6: The chess clock
A.4.d.1. The flag is considered to have fallen when a player has made a claim to that effect. The arbiter shall refrain from signalling a flag fall, but he may do so if both flags have fallen.
2. To claim a win on time, the claimant must stop both clocks and notify the arbiter. For a claim to be successful, the claimant’s flag must remain up and his opponent’s flag down after the clock has been stopped.
3. If both flags have fallen as described in (1) and (2), the arbiter shall declare the game drawn.
Article 7: Irregularities
7.4. a. If during a game it is found that an illegal move, including failing to meet the requirements of the promotion or capturing the opponent’s king has been completed, the position immediately before the irregularity shall be reinstated.
b. After the action taken under Article 7.4.a, for the first two illegal moves by a player, the arbiter shall give two minutes extra time to his opponent’s in each instance, for the third illegal move by the same player, the arbiter shall declare the game lost by this player.
Article 8: The recording of the moves
8.1 In the course of the play each player is required to record his own moves and those of his opponent in the correct manner, move by move as clearly and legibly as possible in the score sheet prescribed for the competition. It is forbidden to write the moves in advance, unless the player is claiming a draw. A player may reply to his opponent’s move before recording it, if he so wishes, he must record his previous move before making another. Both players must record the offer of a draw on the score sheet.
8.4 If a player has less than five minutes left on his clock at some stage in a period and does not have additional time of 30 seconds or more added with each move, then for the remainder of the period he is not obliged to meet the requirements of Article 8.1.
Article 12: Conduct of the players
12.3.b Without the permission of the arbiter a player is forbidden to have mobile phone or other electronic means of communication in the playing venue, unless they are completely switched off. If any such device produces a sound, the player shall lose the game. The opponent shall win. The playing venue is defined as the playing area, rest rooms, refreshment area, area set aside for smoking and other placed designated by the arbiter.

We have 28 in open, 26 in u1600 and 4 in recreation section.
Fantastic line up. We have a new top seed in u1600 section. Both sections equally split up except for recreation which is not well supported. I guess we have to think how to overcome this issue in the future event.

I guess you are right but it's not easy to maintain the interest. Mississauga chess club is the biggest chess club in Canada and if these new players in this area wants to play chess they should join the club

Hi Guys,
We will be having our second edition of Mississauga Standard 2 months from now on May 11, 2014 ( Sunday ). We had a wonderful maiden outing with 32 players and the tournament was well run with Ferdinand Supsup as the TD. We hope to have a higher turnout for the coming one and hope you guys will give your full support. There will be a newly created section ( recreational ) where the players especially new players do not need to be CFC members.
This tournament is created for you guys so do register early for us to make a perfect preparation for you guys. We want to ensure the players are comfortable during the tournament and the tournament to be well run again.

I would like to thank Paul Roschman, Ferdinand Supsup, Jin Huang and Bob Gillanders for the tournament well managed and smoothly organized. We also thanked the volunteers in helping out after the tournament.
- We have a record of 60 participants almost doubling our 1st edition. We have a mixed crowd of adult and juniors.
- 3 Masters turned up with FM Razvan Preotu beating FM Robert Morrison in the last round to claim clear 1st and a big cash prize of $ 280. An upset in round 4 where NM Adam Cormier lost to top rising junior Sergey Noritsyn ( brother of IM Nikolay ) and 6 of them shared tie for 2nd in the Open section. They shared $ 65 each.
- In the U-1600, a very fierce competition where it ended up with 3 players achieved 3.5 points out of 4 and they shared a prize money of $ 95 each. Allyson Xu ( Mississauga chess club ) won the tie break and the big trophy.
- Liza Noritsyn ( sister of Nikolay ) won the recreational section and won the trophy.
- A total of $ 1,000 prize money and 5 trophies were awarded.
- Thanks to all the players who turned up who made this all possible and the tournament a success. We hope you will continue to support this tournament in future and please do give us feedback as to how to improve and bring up the level of the tournament to a greater height. We have you players in mind when we seek improvement
