I found the closing paragraphs of this interview extremely interesting:

"JS: I think poker can teach chess about the importance of glamour. We are starting to learn that with the fun events at the Isle of Man and the recent tournament in Las Vegas, the inaugural Millionaire Chess Open. It’s not just about offering monetary value to your audience, but also the chance to feel like a champion. Not everyone can be World Chess Champion, but anyone can win a poker tournament.

In scholastic chess, we are more focused on making everyone feel like a winner, perhaps even to a fault, like when 70% of the field gets trophies. Adults want a winner’s photo with the trophy and pile of cash too. "

And right after:

"Chess does a good job of presenting the culture not only as a game or potential job, but also as something worth playing and studying for intrinsic sake. People fall in love with the game, and making money or boosting ego has little to do with it. The happiest and most successful poker players also share this passion for figuring out the game."

I played a game of this chess roulette with her - I don't think it will catch on. The game result is too heavily influenced by the roulette spin.

I was explaining the concept to an 8-year-old girl today and made the mistake of letting her spin her imaginary wheel to the piece of her choice. The girl was smart enough to attack my Queen and then proceed to make me move my King ):

Thanks Jack for the link. Jennifer's voice comes through loud and clear in that article. Its interesting to make flow charts from your games on key squares occupied by key pieces during the games. (Its also a great learning tool for awakening ones understanding as to which squares to focus on to achieve results)
