From now on the registration lists will be kept updated on a daily basis and will be available on the tournament website (from the Follow page). Twelve Grandmasters, including 4 Canadians (Kovalyov, Hansen, Sambuev and Roussel-Roozmon) have been confirmed.

    Important dates
June 10 : CYCC registration fees go up form $225 to $250. Online registration
June 10 : Last day for room bookings at the venue. Note : there were more bookings than expected and although the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth is a very big hotel, it might not be possible to get a room if you wait until the deadline. Enjoy our awesome discounts ! Information | Online booking

Re : CO and CYCC registrations and announcements

An important note : I just spoke with the hotel manager and we have exceeded (quite a lot in fact) our number of rooms. They will continue to accept registrations until they have no rooms left, but we cannot guarantee everyone a room. It will be on a first come first served basis, so hurry up. This is particularly true for the CYCC, for which about 150 rooms are already booked. In any case, in one month the discount will be over.

Another reminder : the entry fee for the 2400 section is based on the FIDE rating as of January 1st. Some people did not pay the right amount.

Why is Geordie Derraugh and his 2330 rating not playing in the Open section...?

Section B is open to all players with a FIDE rating under 2400. With a FIDE rating of 2162, he is definitely elligible. Players can play up in the first section, but they also have to pay a bigger entry fee, so it's completely up to them.

150 rooms booked for the CYCC and 68 entries? Either a lot of parents, siblings, etc., or many have booked rooms, but haven't registered for the tournament?

I believe it's more the latter. As always, most people wait until the very last moment to register... In our case the deadline is in a month, so I wouldn't be surprised if we received a lot of registrations in the first two weeks of June. Also, something to take in consideration is that a lot of clubs organize tournaments in which CYCC bursaries are offered... So parents book their room, but wait until they know how much their children win before registering them. An example of this is all the participants listed as "Paid by Patrick McDonald". Their entry is paid as winners of the OYCC.

Brings out the debate regarding a sex change. Can a random 2600 GM get a sex change and be listed as a female with FIDE? He could go on to make quite a bit of money... Instant world champion candidate...

As of today, there are 100 pre-registered players in the Canadian Open, and 95 in the CYCC.

If your child is registered for the CYCC and wants to play in the CO, his registration is free. Please register for the CO here . You don't need to pay for us to receive and proceed the form.

You should give it a try, if you're lucky, maybe you'll make the female Olympic team

A few announcements about the tournaments `
                          • Pre-registrations : The CO pre-registrations (112) and CYCC pre-registrations (114) are up to date. That said, many players register on the website, but without paying. Please double-check that your name is on the list and contact us if it isn't. Also, the Credit card owner field is there to help us identify the payments we receive. DO NOT answer with your credit card number, nor ''yes''.
                          • Limited hotel rooms availability : We have exceeded the number of rooms we had booked at the hotel. The hotel will continue accepting bookings as long as it still has rooms left, but we can no longer guarantee everyone a room (even for bookings made before June 10). We highly recommend you to book your room as soon as possible, especially for the CYCC.
                          • Suites available : We have a few junior suites at an extremely low rate. Please contact us for more details.
                          • Additional tournament rooms : Since the registrations are going well, the hotel offered us an additional waiting room for the parents for the CYCC. We will then have the “Grand Salon” (~7500 sq. feet) for the players, and an adjacent room of ~3500 sq. feet for the parents. This room, in addition to the enormous lobby, the health club, the spa and the three restaurants should be enough for all the parents waiting for their kids
Parents will also be able to buy books from Strategy Games, the official equipment supplier of the CFC.
