Whoa, somewhere I got the idea that First Prize was a guaranteed $1000.
And I was about to try to get say Montreal and Ottawa players to come for the weekend and include the Saturday Rapid where the First Prize is guaranteed at $400.
And now I notice the bracketed comment above (based on 55 entries).

*IDEA!* now maybe I will run a Rapid tournament with a First Prize of $10,000 GUARANTEED!
        - entry fee? Umm, say $800. :) oh and yes (based on 20 entries).

Vlad, are you moving a Million $$$ chess tournament to Canada? LOL

The previous similar event attracted 36 players with entry fee 80$. I think that 55 is a realistic number. The Annex CC members might take 80% of that LOL

Well, if the oganizers also think that 55 is a realistic number, then why not simply
guarantee the $1,000? And then we could attract players from Montreal and Ottawa.

To protect from unforeseen weather conditions :)

Why does "based on" prevents Montreal or Ottawa players to come and play?

$1000 for the winner is guaranteed. Money raised for the Olympiad team is based on entries.

                See flyer:

                  Thanks, Marcus,
I was sure I had seen the '$1000 Guaranteed' But then when Egis incorrectly
posted the '(based on 55 entries)' I thought I had been mistaken. It seems I was wrong in thinking that I was mistaken :).
                  Thanks for the correction.

You're welcome. Actually, I should probably make a separate thread for the Toronto Blitz Championship.

Lovely article above. Bring your child and have him/her come see me playing blindfold chess. He/she could be the next to develop a love for blindfold chess or even just chess in all its forms.

Do you play blindfold with eyes closed? Just to know in advance to use a flashlight or not LOL Anyway, I very rarely use it taking pictures of chessplayers.

Go right ahead and use the flash (but please send me some pictures!) There will be all sorts of distractions but I will just have to concentrate harder. By the way you dont happen to know any young candidates? You never know who will get the blindfold bug. Alekhine himself claims he caught it by watching Pillsbury in Moscow! (quite the legacy!)
