There was a thread where he complained about becoming a national master.

Oh yes he's been there. I just think he should stay there. Hugh's got character and style and knowledge. What more is there?

Congrats on the great turnout, wish I could have been there.

How much was raised for the Olympiad teams?

                For the Men's team $500
                For the Women's team $100
And had Nava Starr not played there would have been no money for the Women's team - same as for the previous Olympiad fundraiser. :(

Vlad, you gotta change those rules.. It can't be that lower rated player is not eligible for a higher class prize.
You have players from lower sections without prize, while achieving same or better score than the ones in higher sections, who are winning prizes. Player from the bottom section has to be eligible for all prizes above him.

I've always tried to argue that if you're going to have sectional prizes then the last round should be paired intra-sectionally. On more than one occasion in the last round of Vlad's tournaments I've been paired up to a wolf 400 points higher than me while the guy one rung below me gets a gimme. It pays to toss your first two games and then scoop up 3 points on your way out. Don't get me wrong, I'm there for the challenge of facing strong players, but still...
