  • Chess dreams do come true in the United States

http://en.chessbase.com/post/first-u...ess-tournament When I travelled down to the SPICE CUP in Texas in October 2011 to see Susan Polgar (less than 3 years ago!) Jeffrey Xiong was a local unknown schoolboy. Now at age 13 he is playing with politicians in the White House. I predicted great things for this boy but even I had no idea of the magnitude.

You are an oracle. Have you seen in your visions any Canadian player playing in a Parliament under a Kirsan's supervision? :)

I happened 30 years ago when Jeff Sarwer took Parliament by storm (of chessboards). The chess community ignored him and we are now blessed with 100 years of bad karma.

Great piece. But in the interests of scrupulous accuracy, Xiong was playing in the Capitol, not the White House which, on some days, is a million unbridgeable miles away.

Thanks for the link! Both IM Sevian and IM Xiong will be playing in this year's Canadian Open. Some lucky CYCC player will also have the chance to play in a simul against IM Sevian. I suspect there must be a big rivalry between the top two U14
          players in the World :)

Here's a 'KERA News' item on Jeffery Xiong.

I noticed that Jeffery Xiong is inching closer to the GM title. In the recently completed Dallas tournament he was plus one against 7 GMs! and one good tournament will put him over 2500. Probably GM in 2015.
