General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
Its all girls so far. The following players have to fulfill all the requirements with respect to payments and the directors will have to make a final stamp of approval when we have the full list but so far the team is:
Players who have expressed an interest in serving as coaches are:
Aman Hambleton
Andrew Peredun
Michael Egorov
Given the past performances of all three as coaches of previous teams that Canada sent to WYCC I am sure that all three will be looked upon favourably. Final determination of how many coaches will be sent will be determined by the number of kids going.
We have received an extension until after the CYCC ends to submit our list of official players without penalty.

The deadline to register for WYCC is the day after CYCC completes.
ouch, but it provides us an opportunity to get everyone registered while we are all together in Montreal.
So we are asking for your cooperation to make the registration easier.
When you are at the CYCC, you need to make the decision if you are going to the WYCC. No pressure, eh.:)
Here is a letter to explain from CFC Youth Coordinator, Frank Lee.
_______
Hi Registered CYCC players and their parents,
I am sure that everyone is excited that CYCC will start soon. It sounds like the organisers have made a effort to make this year’s event a unique experience in the middle festival season in Montreal.
My name is Frank Lee and the CFC Youth Coordinator. I am writing to you concerning the situation where the registration deadline of 17 July for the WYCC is before the completion of the CYCC on 18 July. The CFC has asked WYCC organisers for extension and granted an extension to 19 July – the day after the CYCC.
As you can see it will be very tight registering everyone on time. To avoid late registrations I am asking all players and parents who are interested in participating in this year’s WYCC to decide whether you will go to South Africa for the WYCC before the start of the CYCC.
If you decide to go to the WYCC please forward the CFC office the approximate WYCC registration fees (players -$350 and accompanying adults - $150), photos, photocopy of passports, home address, home phone number and e-mail address by 15 July. The CFC office will register you for the WYCC.
After the completion for the CYCC we can determine the Official players and additional qualified players. All appropriate funds will be returned to these players. Players who did not finish in the top three of your Section in the CYCC but has decided to register for the WYCC will be required to donate $150.
I hope this solution to the registration issue is acceptable to all players. If you have any questions please contact me.
Regards,
Frank Lee
CFC Youth Coordinator

So kids need to decide beforehand if they are going to the WYCC - that's semi-reasonable but still pushing it. Parents need a week to think about it - but I respect the situation.
However, if you aren't in the top three you lose your $150? So the entry fee to the tournament should officially read $250 $150. No? Simply ridiculous...

I just had a phone call about the CYCC which I couldn't answer.
So I will take the opportunity to refresh this thread and also pose a question.
What is the deadline for registration for the CYCC?
I visited the site, and like my caller, I couldn't find the answer.
So, I just assured her that they were still taking registrations, right?
Yes, we still take registrations. We will take registrations until the day before. On site registrations will be possible, but the players will have a bye for the first round. I will make an official announcement soon.
