General Guidelines
---- Nous avons besoin d'un traduction français!
Some Basics
1. Under Board "Frequently Asked Questions" (FAQs) there are 3 sections dealing with General Forum Usage, User Profile Features, and Reading and Posting Messages. These deal with everything from Avatars to Your Notifications. Most general technical questions are covered there. Here is a link to the FAQs. https://forum.chesstalk.com/help
2. Consider using the SEARCH button if you are looking for information. You may find your question has already been answered in a previous thread.
3. If you've looked for an answer to a question, and not found one, then you should consider asking your question in a new thread. For example, there have already been questions and discussion regarding: how to do chess diagrams (FENs); crosstables that line up properly; and the numerous little “glitches” that every new site will have.
4. Read pinned or sticky threads, like this one, if they look important. This applies especially to newcomers.
5. Read the thread you're posting in before you post. There are a variety of ways to look at a thread. These are covered under “Display Modes”.
6. Thread titles: please provide some details in your thread title. This is useful for a number of reasons. It helps ChessTalk members to quickly skim the threads. It prevents duplication of threads. And so on.
7. Unnecessary thread proliferation (e.g., deliberately creating a new thread that duplicates existing discussion) is discouraged. Look to see if a thread on your topic may have already been started and, if so, consider adding your contribution to the pre-existing thread. However, starting new threads to explore side-issues that are not relevant to the original subject is strongly encouraged. A single thread on the Canadian Open, with hundreds of posts on multiple sub-topics, is no better than a dozen threads on the Open covering only a few topics. Use your good judgment when starting a new thread.
8. If and/or when sub-forums are created, please make sure to create threads in the proper place.
Debate
9. Give an opinion and back it up with a reason. Throwaway comments such as "Game X pwnz because my friend and I think so!" could be considered pointless at best, and inflammatory at worst.
10. Try to give your own opinions, not simply those copied and pasted from reviews or opinions of your friends.
Unacceptable behavior and warnings
11. In registering here at ChessTalk please note that the same or similar rules apply here as applied at the previous Boardhost message board. In particular, the following content is not permitted to appear in any messages:
* Racism
* Hatred
* Harassment
* Adult content
* Obscene material
* Nudity or pornography
* Material that infringes intellectual property or other proprietary rights of any party
* Material the posting of which is tortious or violates a contractual or fiduciary obligation you or we owe to another party
* Piracy, hacking, viruses, worms, or warez
* Spam
* Any illegal content
* unapproved Commercial banner advertisements or revenue-generating links
* Any link to or any images from a site containing any material outlined in these restrictions
* Any material deemed offensive or inappropriate by the Board staff
12. Users are welcome to challenge other points of view and opinions, but should do so respectfully. Personal attacks on others will not be tolerated. Posts and threads with unacceptable content can be closed or deleted altogether. Furthermore, a range of sanctions are possible - from a simple warning to a temporary or even a permanent banning from ChessTalk.
Helping to Moderate
13. 'Report' links (an exclamation mark inside a triangle) can be found in many places throughout the board. These links allow users to alert the board staff to anything which is offensive, objectionable or illegal. Please consider using this feature if the need arises.
Advice for free
14. You should exercise the same caution with Private Messages as you would with any public posting.
Dear CFC president, Governors/Voting Members, CFC members
There is lot information about CFC president election. I am curious if there is CFC youth coordinator and youth committee election at the same time.
So far there is no youth coordinator election as there is only one declared candidate and there is not a youth committee election. Those who sought one did not submit it in a timely basis to meet the statutory requirements mandated by Canadian law. Anyone who wants to get involved in youth and organization should send me and Frank Lee an email (probably after the AGM for a quick response). We do want your input and we try to consider the parents and young players in every decision that we make in the area of youth chess.
[QUOTE]
- What are the responsibilities
Coordinate with the CFC office, FIDE and the parents.
- Who are the candidates
Frank Lee
- Who else are interested in these roles
The executive and directors.
Would you please provide the parents and the youth players some insight?
I should be able to continue this discussion tonight. AGM starts today and I have duties there and in Windsor today.
Thank you.
You are welcome. The parents should be involved directly with no middle men.
Hi Registered CYCC players and their parents,
I am sure that everyone is excited that CYCC will start soon. It sounds like the organisers have made a effort to make this year’s event a unique experience in the middle of festival season in Montreal.
My name is Frank Lee and the CFC Youth Coordinator. I am writing to you concerning the situation where the registration deadline of 17 July for the WYCC is before the completion of the CYCC on 18 July. The CFC has asked WYCC organisers for extension and granted an extension to 19 July – the day after the CYCC.
As you can see it will be very tight registering everyone on time. To avoid late registrations I am asking all players and parents who are interested in participating in this year’s WYCC to decide whether you will go to South Africa for the WYCC before the start of the CYCC.
If you decide to go to the WYCC please forward the CFC office the approximate WYCC registration fees (players -$350 and accompanying adults - $150), photos, photocopy of passports, home address, home phone number and e-mail address by 15 July. The CFC office will register you for the WYCC.
After the completion for the CYCC we can determine the Official players and additional qualified players. All appropriate funds will be returned to these players. Players who did not finish in the top three of your Section in the CYCC but has decided to register for the WYCC will be required to donate $150.
I hope this solution to the registration issue is acceptable to all players. If you have any questions please contact me.
Regards,
Frank Lee

Thank you for your quick reply, Vlad.
You said 'The parents should be involved directly with no middle men.' I totally agree. We will continue to give our suggestion to CFC president, other CFC governors and active CFC voting members.
It seems you speak for Youth coordinator some time, shall he send public posting independently? After all, he is Youth coordinator.

You are welcome.
He is also very busy. He works full time. I met with him face to face last night. We have to get the WYCC organized and it would be nice to know how many will be going in order to determine how many coaches will be sent.
The actions of certain people with emotional problems makes posting on chesstalk an exercise for the thick skinned only. Not everyone can handle the venom.

Please explain whose letter is it? Frank Lee or Vlad Drkulec?
Players who did not finish in the top three of your Section in the CYCC but has decided to register for the WYCC will be required to donate $150.
Lets call things what they are. It is a fee (not a donation).
"All players whose applications are approved will be eligible to participate at WYCC using their own funds plus paying extra fee of $150 to CFC Youth Program fund."
"All players whose applications are approved will be eligible to participate at WYCC using their own funds plus paying extra fee of $150 to CFC Youth Program fund."
Of course this is a fee! Reminds me when 12 Ladies were charged $150.00 entry fee for the Canadian Closed Ladies' Championship and my wife's first prize was $76.00! Another money grab! And one of the organizers is standing now for the re-election as an executive!
It is just another example of how present CFC's Executives promote children's chess!
Lets call things what they are. It is a fee (not a donation).
"All players whose applications are approved will be eligible to participate at WYCC using their own funds plus paying extra fee of $150 to CFC Youth Program fund."
I suppose it is a fee which goes into the youth fund which is used for youth based initiatives like WYCC.
It seems pretty clear that it is a letter from Frank Lee. Most likely Vlad D. posted it on his behalf.
Kerry, you are correct. The letter came from Frank Lee. It was in an email attachment discussing the upcoming WYCC. Several executives and myself were copied.
Please, give me a break! Why Frank could send the letter to Vlad but couldn't post it here?
I have no idea; it does not matter. The letter is information - pure and simple.
Frank Lee IS the CFC Youth Coordinator (at this moment) and it is extremely likely that
anything he thinks, says and does will have a direct impact on perhaps dozens of kids and families
that are involved with CYCC and WYCC. The information is crucial and important and was posted.
I suggest you stop trying to analyze [for political gain] every word of every sentence that is posted.
Lets call things what they are. It is a fee (not a donation).
"All players whose applications are approved will be eligible to participate at WYCC using their own funds plus paying extra fee of $150 to CFC Youth Program fund."
semantics! :(
The "extra fees" are retained in the Youth Fund, so I would not be offended by calling it a "donation". :)
