  • CFC Ratings... on Mondays?

Does anyone know why CFC ratings are updated on Wednesdays?

Looking at the recent crosstables, it seems that most tournaments finish on a Saturday or Sunday. Would it make more sense to update on Mondays?

Come on, give the organizers a break. An update on Wednesday is actually a great thing, considering that the organizer has to file in the report, the guy from the CFC has to take all of that and enter it in the system. Then you have to channel that information towards the website.

I mean, yes, with computers and all it's easy, but it still takes time. Somebody has to double check and make sure that everything is OK.

And you probably don't play on Tuesdays, so an update on Monday would be pointless anyways... ;)

Tournaments on long weekends would finish on a Monday. Doing the update on a Wednesday allows time for the tournament organizers/directors to catch their breath and gives them a few days to get the results in. Those who have obligations outside of chess (job, family) probably won't have a chance to do the submission until Monday or Tuesday night after a typical weekend Swiss.

Several months ago the ED wanted to move rating updates to Friday. After some furore it was decided to stick to Wednesday/Thursday as convenient days for organizers and the office for similar reasons written by Steve Douglas.

And anyways, what's the rush? It's not like you go from 1800 to 2200 in one week...

Chess players are obsessed with their rating and it's detrimental to tournament participation, IMO.

            Mathieu you are so correct!
Having said that it does seem to be popular to update the list weekly. Kind of justifies the rating fees.

Well, as "Vanguard of the old boys' network" it is to be expected that I would be very influential on CFC policy :)

Seriously, this issue seems to keep popping up every few years. As (I think) Bob Gillanders pointed out, Wednesday was not chosen at random, but after serious consideration (and of course much bickering on ChessSquawk).
