GM Mark Bluvshtein does not need to be introduced anymore. He was Canada's youngest IM, youngest GM and youngest Olympian. He stopped playing in 2011 to start a career in investment banking and we haven't seen him since then. But he will now come out of his retirement for a very special event in Montreal.
The FQE has made a lot of efforts lately to promote chess among a broader audience. For instance, FM Richard Bérubé (the FQE's executive director) helped the FADOQ (Association of Quebecers over 50) in order to write an article on the benefits of chess for the brain (both for diseases and general cognitive abilities). Over 250 000 people read this magazine.
Now, we partnered with the Just for Laughs festival to organize a public simultaneous exhibition with GM Mark Bluvshtein. We will try to both entertain the public and raise awareness about all the benefits of chess for the brain.
Here's all the information :
Simul by GM Bluvshtein
Sunday, July 20, 2 PM
At the Complexe Desjardins (150 Rue Sainte-Catherine Ouest ; about 10 minutes walk from the Queen Elizabeth)
Free
Also, a reminder about the Just for Laughs festival :
This summer chess championships (CYCC and CO) are organized in collaboration with the 2014 World Games (by Just for Laughs).
The World Games start today and feature a "Gaming Lounge" (the Complexe Desjardins) and a "Gaming Boulevard" (Maisonneuve Boulevard), both within a few minutes walk from the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth.
There will be several tournaments and shows. Whether you want to play more chess, checkers, baby-foot, video games or board games, you will find what you are looking for! This is certainly the most interesting Montreal festival for kids, and one of the most popular with adults as well.
There should be giant chess sets and a simul with GM Bluvshtein will be organized.
