          New announcement :

          1. Scholastic section will be open to Kindergarten to Grade 12. It will be CFC and CMA rated. No membership is needed.
          2. Food court will be open. All chess equipment are provided. Refreshment are provided. You just need to bring yourself and arrive on time for registration.
          3. We are having more sections so that there are more chances of winning. 3 winners out of 16 is better than 3 out 24 or 28, isn't it ? Players of more equal strengths in each section due to smaller rating range for each section. We hope to have about 16 players in each section. if there are more than 16 players in that section, we might have a class prize for that section.

2 months away now. Hope you guys can pre-register early. Please send e mails to Ferdinand or myself ( Gary )

            Hi Guys,

Registration starts to trickle in and we have about 20 players now. Pre-registration list will be out soon. So far 25% of targeted entries. Please help us by registering early.

We have our defending champion in Open section in the list now and we have some rising juniors going for a run against him.

Other sections also have some winners from the Hamilton Summer Open last weekend which was successfully run by Garvin and Bob Gillanders. We also have a guest from Buffalo, US. He is a Canadian though. Probably there could be more guests from Buffalo.

The last tournament May Std which have 60 players registered saw $1k prize money and trophies awarded and I am positive that this coming October will see more than $ 1.2-1.5k awarded if we have the same or higher turnout.

We strongly encourage you to register early for us to make the preparation smoothly.

            50 days to go......

            Cheers

                Hi Francis,

That's great listing out the CMA tournaments now. I am sure organizers will take heed and avoid conflicts with CMA " bigger " tournaments such as Grand Prix and OCC finals. I have noticed that next year OCC finals will not be the same date as Niagara Falls Open which is great !!!

                Cheers !

I have been advertising Nov 22-23 for months now on the Milton Chess site.
                  Which one is correct?
I am trying to confirm that with Mohawk! Which dates did we book! Awaiting reply.

                  CMA may need to reschedule!

                          Re: Mississauga October Standard - October 19, 2014 ( Sunday )

Mississauga Open concluded yesterday and it was a great tournament with total 88 players. An 1860 junior player from Mississauga ( Benito Surya ) tie for first with Jonathan Yu ( 2205 ) in the Open section and in the process becomes an expert after the tournament ( above CFC 2000 ) . Both had 4 points and drew their last round against each other. All other sections were fiercely fought and I guess most players had a good time. The only problem was on the first day where round one was delayed due to some reasons but overall it was a great success. Thanks to Paul R, Bob G and Garvin N and Mississauga Chess Club for a great tournament.

Coming back to our next month standard, we are up to 30 players now. Will post the latest pre-registered list later today.

Let's hope more players will sign up in the coming days for us to know if we can have a good crowd like Mississauga Open.

It's a one day tournament with 4 rated games for all sections and good prize $$$ and Trophies. Refreshments are provided too except no " Soup " and " Sandwiches ". All equipment provided. One day settles it all unlike the normal weekend two or three days tournament.

                              Re: Mississauga October Standard - October 19, 2014 ( Sunday )

Less than 1 month to go.

Pre-registered list stands at 33 players. We are hoping to have 16 players in each section so that there wont be two players ending up with 4 points and that's why we created more sections. All sections will be CFC rated.

To encourage more players ( especially juniors ) who wants to play up ( within the 100 points ), we will waive off the $ 5 fee for playing up. If you are 19xx, you are allowed to play in Open section for the same entry fee. Same goes for other sections ( 15xx play in U-2000 and 11xx playing in U-1600 ). We wont waive off late entry though.

We encourage you to sign up early and it's not too far away anyway. 26 days away.

For a tournament where you are paying between $ 20-35 for a 4 regular rated game with a good pool of prize$$$/trophy, I think it is value for $$$
