Looks like the 'game du jour' is Sambuev's bishop sacrifice in the opening where Black seems to have a difficult defense.

In the current position, it seems Bator can force a draw by rep - Qh7ch ... Kf8 Qh5 ...Kg8 etc

.....but what can Black do? he seems in virtual zugzwang, while White can improve his position by bringing the second knight to f3 and then e5.
      Fascinating position!

Or even better plan for White is to double rooks on the e-file. Still the computer eval gives a slight edge to Black. But what does Black do here? Does anyone see a plan for Black?

Clearly. Black (D Howell) recognizes his problem as Bator now has almost an hour's advantage on the clock!

Now more than one hour advantage! 1 hr, 19 min vs 17 min.

Re: Re : Canada vs England

Having sacked a piece for two pawns, Bator declined black's offer of an exchange. White is now (probably) worse, as black untangles and brings pieces to the defense. Black has about 10 minutes (plus increment) for 19 moves to reach the time control.

I watching at the chess24 site, linked above. In Bator's game, black was looking good, but had to make quick moves in a complicated position and is now worse. Playing on the increment, as far as I can tell.

Update, 1 minute later... lots of exchanges, and Bator has 4 pawns for the piece, should be an interesting endgame.

Chessdom has the live games (http://www.chessdom.com/tromso-chess...-teams-10-178/) and they are not displaying realtime computer evaluation of the Canadian games today, which makes them all the more interesting to watch. GM Howell's now got 1:15 on his clock after move 37, and GM Sambuev is up four pawns for a knight.

Bator has a won game, but not over yet.
Kovalyov has a good advantage which he's had for the whole game.
                          Aman has a small edge.
                          Eric is equal.
Therefore Canada should win the match 2 1/2 - 1 1/2 or even 3 - 1 if we are to count our chicks before the eggs hatch. :)

Aman unfortunately missed a very strong (winning?) move (33... Bxd4) and the position is now pretty much equal... However, we must admit that the move was not that easy to see. Canada is probably now fighting for a 2-2 result (with Sambuev winning his game).
